Why do the American cars have those plastic finned covers to the side of the fog lights, and not the usual flat ones?

Reality check, people.
It's reality at this moment in time, lets not get started on 'posh aircooled bettles'.

Good spot. I have never noticed that before. Not all the U.S. spec cars have it though. Not sure what it is for. I am guessing it is extra cooling air for the air conditioning, possibly for the hotter U.S. states.

E30 M3's specced without air con have the top vent on the bumper blanked out.

That white one looks nice, just don't think I could live with that colour interior on a white car.
Can you take the viscous fan off these U.S. spec cars and fit an electric fan? And maybe taking the cats off? Wouldn't this change the car to more or less euro spec, other than the gearbox? How different are they to drive to a euro car?
And those side reflectors on the bumpers? Can they be taken off?
Sorry for all the questions.

Yes, you can simply undo the viscous and fit the electric fan instead. Euro bumpers (without the extra reflectors etc) and swap out the overdrive box for a dogleg and you'd be pretty much there.

Tan leather is easily dyed black.

Personally I would be happy with a euro converted US car and be more concerned with condition than where it was bought new!

Need to change the diff too. NA cars were equiped with 4.10:1 ratio diff.
As all NA cars were fitted with A/C they all had electric fans as well as Viscous fans from factory.

This overdrive box. Does the car feel any different toa car with the dogleg, other than having the shift pattern in a traditional H pattern?

To be honest, the difference is very small, as the US cars have the lower final drive.

If you swapped in a dog leg box, the car will feel a bit quicker and rev much higher at normal motorway speeds.

The racers like the diff, so it can have a bit of a price premium.

Apparently, that white one at £35k is being sold cheap as the seller needs to raise the funds to buy an Evo2 (not mine).

Nice car but £200k? Out of interest, what do you guys think it would have made 10 years ago?

Maybe £20k.

I am sure I used to look at these on mobile.de in 2000-2002 and when they cropped up they were around €15000.

The normal E30 shell Alpinas were €3-6000.

A pint of the black stuff good sir :-)

I'm a little surprised myself at the price tag but that has to be one of the best if not the best surviving examples.

Are there other examples available anywhere?

I can imagine any other owners might be seriously tempted to sell with the market being as strong as it appears.
