Can I ask why it has to be 1990 registered?

I only ask as I have '89 and '91 registered cars... biggrin
I have my reasons!

Annoyingly, there have been some absolute peaches available either side of 1990 over the (circa) 2 years I've been keeping an eye out

Thanks sim for backing me on this. Atleast you understand where I'm coming from. I just told them of a few cars what got sold for and you know 3-4 that are in the 20s but they won't get it as they probably don't know people who have them and just follow this thread.
Since I come on here all I get it is a lot of negativity and people making silly remarks but yourself, Cayman and mark been good to me and I thank you lot for that. I don't think this site is for me, all I came on here was to ask if anyone selling a e30 m3 and see what the prices where like. But all I get is people want to attack me left right and centre and a lot of negativity.
Hope the prices rise for everyone and you get very rich off it as I won't ever sell mine and if fit all crashes then tough luck should of sold it when you had a chance but that won't happen for now so don't worry. And whoever is looking for one in the 20s don't loose hope as you should hopefully find one as I lost hope then found one.
Peace out everyone.

Couple of cars at auction this weekend.

First is a white 1988 car in what looks average condition, for the lack of a better description and photos at £32K. Looks a hell of a lot better investment next the the Irish project shed M3 , if indeed it really did sell for £26K.

Second is a nice sounding Ravaglia that went to auction today, but as yet with no sale price info.

Birth year if you must know. And all my cars are grey.

Not sure why I'm finding the need to prove myself:

This was in relation to a 60k mile 325i M Sport last year. Would need closer to £20k to buy something similar now, which is fine!

Definitely a good enough reason!

I was just being a sarcastic tw*t wink

I've had a couple of '90 cars in grey over the years, sold very cheaply compared to the current prices rolleyes

No worries, I struggle with Northern humour at the best of times wink

Boll*cks - pity I didn't snap one of those up!

Seems a fair price for a fair car - could have been presented a lot better though. Black grill crappy badge, torn seat, grubby engine bay. Could have been presented a lot better for not a huge amount of money.

There's a black early car coming in the market any day now. It's running / driving but needs some love. Likely to be around 30k I imagine.

Thats in the other off line universe..but to be fair to that fella..there is no point on spending GBP 35k on a car that may look OK but needs everything and may be missing lots of rare original parts.

Conversely, you will not find a very original, sound and useable car that needs a bit of TLC for 20k..so I still feel he is not being honest with us.

So in keeping with this thread's title I am going to put out the following for standard cars.

15-20k- Basket case cars, non running projects
20k-30k Honest but clearly rusty cars in need of work. Or heavily modified cars
30k to 40k Good, original M3s. With a premium for solid history and lots of work along the way
40k to 60k Low mileage cars with provenance or very well restored cars

I don't think that's far off, although "modified" can mean all sorts of things nowadays and certainly doesn't automatically mean lesser value. Obviously my own car comes under the modified banner but I have tried to make sure everything is done to a high standard and (for the most part) is sympathetic to what the E30 M3 is about. This is why I stuck with the s14/2.3 whereas I could have spent a bit less and opted for an s54 instead. Yes it would have given me more power but the s14 is an intrinsic part of the E30 M3 for me.

Just a few years ago and M3 that had been tracked was seen as being less desirable / cheaper. Nowadays though, I think every car has to be taken on its own merits. I was never put off by track history myself. In fact, quite the opposite as it meant my car had mods that would have been on my own wish list. I had a limited budget (a budget that certainly wouldn't buy me a running/driving M3 today!) so the fact it was tracked played to my advantage. Despite it being a pretty decent example though, I've spent about the same amount again over the past couple of years, in bringing it up to scratch and making it mine. Yes, the total spend would have bought a better car from the off but buying an arguably lesser car was my only route into ownership, as I needed time to save. Had I waited, I'd have missed the boat and would most likely still be saving / chasing rising value. The same goes for colour choice, as initially I wanted a white car, but had I waited and turned down my car on colour, it would have cost me dear in the long run.

Obviously this is just my own opinion / experience and I understand some folk are all about originality, but nowadays that originality costs and I wouldn't want to miss out on owning such a great car because of it.

Anyway, any pictures of recent purchases chaps? It would be good to see what cars have actually been trading recently.

I think I'd go along with those valuations as well.

I think all the doubters may have huffed Ben, so he might never be heard from again.

Shame as I'd have liked to have seen his car.
