I'm sure I saw this car for sale mid to late last year, certainly looks familiar since it appears gloss back and the RC built engine. IIRC is was about 25k , either way it looks good ( not a fan of the wheels) and if it's sorted should be a hoot to drive.

I saw yours in Sainsbury ( big city Truro) this week, it looked great amongst all the other usual cars and stood out like a dogs proverbial . I couldn't hang around for a quick chat as I was against the clock but may catch up over Joe's sometime.

Must admit I envy the 2.5 in that car, assuming the listing is accurate? There was a 2002 that sold recently, that had been converted to M2 using an EVO M3. They'd even crammed the seats in there! It was built in the 90's and only used a short while before being stored. It made about £9k, or so I believe, which is a bit of a steal when you think what it could break for.

My good lady bought me that DVD for Christmas, it's a great watch isn't it, a real look into how things used to be! A simpler world if you will
I'll admit as much as I bang on about how great my M3 is, balanced, pure etc....I too wouldn't say no to a little bit more grunt, a properly built 2.5 would be the icing on the cake. That 2002 sounds like a bargain, especially given the prices of M3 stuff nowadays . I've also often dreamt of getting some money together and having a 2.7 built up using the bespoke cranks that are available through S14 Power. Some of the builds on there are superb.

I can't make Joe's unfortunately, I'm stuck at home with a lingering ( bloody annoying) chest infection that seems rife in the area, hence being up Sainsbury for copious amounts of drugs! Hopefully next week I'll shake it off and drag the M3 out of its slumber and give it an airing, it's well overdue an Italian tune

The other thing about being stuck at home is I'm surfing the net finding things I shouldnt, I've just stumbled across Joe's caged 2002 shell up for sale, I really ought to just put my iPad down and watch Homes under the hammer !

I think I remember Munich Legends selling a non-Evo M3 a few years ago which had been converted to a 2.5 by Hartge (may have been through Birds)

It was, it was in the Silverstone Auctions S'stone Classics sale in July 2014.

It sold for £20125.

The expensive BBS RS alloys have now been removed, and they look like '70s 15" Alpina alloys.

I have hankered after an e30 M3 for a long time now, turned down a 14k one a few years ago, it was really really good with a fresh engine rebuild by a specialist, i thought it was too expensive at the time, which it probably was - but the same car now would probably be worth 10k more.

so many chancers in the market, but they are succeded in pushing the price up!

I could have bought the car with the JC Racing engine from JC Racing back in '09, for £8500


It's had a lot of money spent on it since then, engine, paint etc.

I wanted the car, but didn't have the funds, then heard that the engine blew after it was sold, so felt i'd had a bit of an escape.

Oh, and it had/has a cheaper OMP cage, not the Safety Devices one advertised....

Optimistically priced in Euro Land. Least desirable spec, some kinda American VIN plate change,wrong seats, half white half crappy black paint job and looking like someone has spent their time driving it on a track.

Agreed, not sure I would be champing at the bit for that car, to put that car back to something like it would take lots of money, in short, an expensive old pup IMO.

Looks like it needs stripping back to a bare shell and starting from scratch.

We were talking this morning and concluded the days of the £15k M3 are long gone. There's nothing under £20k+ now.

It was mentioned on another forum I go on, and I said it "could" be a reasonable buy, others said it needed too much work.

I think the numbers could just about stack up to get a reasonable, "rust free" M3 for less than £20k, so in theory, a bargain at current prices.

It does need a lot of work though!

If I didn't have one and this was all I had the budget for, I reckon I'd take a punt on it. A leisurely rebuild, whilst selling on whatever spares I wasn't going to use, would be a reasonable deal I reckon.

I do know where there's a black 1987/88 car in a similar condition, save for the supposedly rebuilt engine. It's been sat outside for a good few years but it is complete. I've asked them to call me, should they ever decide to part with it. Mind you, it would need some serious investment to bring it back from the brink.

As an aside, has anyone here fitted a GroupA throttle pedal? If so, how does feel? Was it straightforward to fit? Pics?

Problem with the e30 is that even if the body is solid, you are looking at rebuilding the suspension, brakes and fuel system at 25+ years old.

You can get into several thousand pounds doing this alone.

It's a car that will require deep pockets if you want something that truly represents the driving experience of the day from when it was released.

It's a shame when people hold onto a car for a long time and don't do anything with it, then decide to sell when it's really bad as apposed to just being bad, especially a car that's outside. I see what you are saying about a long term project but even my short term ones turn into long ones!

I've not fitted a Group A throttle....I can't see that it would be hard to fit though, especially in yours with clearer acces, no carpet etc.

What's the advantage? Do they have a shorter throw ?

Looks can be deceiving. I sold this one to Chris Harris about 18 months ago and it turned out to be in remarkably good overall condition, despite having turned pink! Even rough ones are worth some serious cash now.
