A zinober red with silver grey cloth 195 car has popped up on PH for £37k.

Was sold at auction a week or so ago for £22k.

More worryingly is this car is rotten!!!!

I inspected it a couple of months back as the previous owners wanted to sell and it had big rust holes in the inner rear arches, rust on the front inner wings where the arch liners have been removed for a long time and lots and lots of under body Shultz sprayed over crusty bits.

Hopefully anyone seriously interested in any UK cars will find their way to this thread.

...June 2013 at 198,172km the M3 went into an Autobody shop to carry out extensive body/paint restoration work, we have several detailed photos of all the restoration work carried out which was also put on CD rom. Work carried out is as follows, replacement front wings, scuttle panel (BMW parts) repairs to n/s & o/s inner arch lips, prepare paint and polish complete exterior body, bumpers, spoiler and side sills, Re-assemble all body parts back onto car using new seals, clips and trim fittings supplied by BMW, Black wax underbody and both inner flitches using correct black wax...
This, and other text in the advert would have one believing the exact opposite.

The car had been painted on the exterior and the current seller does claim the car has been black undersealed but that Shultz stuff is nasty and just hides crustieness.

Seriously, the car had corrosion issues on the inner rear arches and "riffle buts" on the inner wings and under the fuse box.

We were disappointed as the car looked great, nice and shiny with a tidy interior but as soon as it was in the air it was game over for us.

Requested photos of the questionable areas. Only pics I got were from the respray, despite my asking specifically for areas such as beneath the fuse box. Definitely a car to avoid as far as I can see.

A car needing new metal wouldn't particularly bother me as long as the seller was straight up and honest about it and the car priced accordingly. What I can't forgive is someone trying to pass off a car needing considerable money as a minter. My own Evo1 needs work below the fuse box and the rear inner arches which I'll get round to at some point next year but I wouldn't dream of slapping a bit of underseal on and passing it off as a concours entrant. I'm not that good with the spanners so tend to pay good money for good cars and and could have easily bought this relying on the description........

This is the thing, nothing wrong with cars needing work as there is someone out there for every kind of E30 M3 from a basket case resto project all they way up to delivery mileage sport evos but it's the unscrupulous traders thinking they can make a quick buck by buying them at the lower end of the market, doing the bare minimum if at all and hiking the price up considerable then lying about the condition of the car!

It's these people that are tainting the market and skewing prices!

Absolutely. I knew, when I viewed my own car, that there were issues to address but it was sensibly priced and well worth the money. It was an added bonus that there were no carpets, so thorough inspection of the floorpan was easy.

Driven it, it's been for sale for ages (6 months +). E30zoners are critical of interior but overall I thought it was very tidy. It's on SOR and he's only a dropped the price a smidge I see..

Defo not an Evo btw! biggrin

Usually criticised by folk who've never had one, or intend buying one for themselves. The same people are the ones who'll also moan about how modifying one ruins them.

The Macau blue M3 has been up for sale for over a year now, not sure if dealers are selling on behalf of owner or they have bought it off him.
I seen the car at Be-spoke leathering last year while it was having the re-trim, I did say to John that its incorrect style for the m3 and would look silly but the owner was adamant he wanted it like that. The car itself actually looks fairly tidy in the usual areas but for that money would need a proper inspection for any hidden rust.
Seen it again at Gaydon same year and had a brief chat with the owner at the time who also happens to own a sport evo which was being restored.

I've certainly seen worse for more money. I don't think I'd let the re-trim stop me buying what appears to be a decent car (in a rare colour) either. You could always sort the interior down the line and meanwhile just enjoy driving the thing. Some folk just get so hung up on the whole originality thing though and are more worried about what people might say, than just enjoying the car for what it was designed to do.

I had someone yesterday, who was having a proper moan at me for taking my own car out in a light shower. I make no apology for using my M3 at every opportunity and in all weathers, but I simply couldn't afford to only bring it out on sunny days. Added to which life is short enough as it is, so why wouldn't I want to spend as much of it as possible, behind the wheel of a car I wanted for years?! I actually think my car is all the better for being used regularly and I try and take good care of it, with regular oil changes (every couple of months at least) and thorough cleaning etc. I just think cars are to be driven I guess?

What a great forum to stumble upon! I've watched the market over the last year or so as I want to eventually own another e30 m3 in the next year or 2. I had a beautiful zinnobar red 89 back in the early 00's and sold it.. The car itself was sold again on ebay in 2012 for 16k and exported out the UK. A least it was good to still see it going strong.

One thing that this forum has highlighted is the amount of cars that have been round and round the classified ads / auctions, snapped up by dealers and placed up for sale at high prices. One particular car is the zinnobar red 88 currently up 37.500 and the fact it sold at auction for around 25k.. I'm glad that a previous post here has highlighted it's a tad rusty. It's sad to see some dealers placing cars at stupid prices. There's far better cars that have sold for considerably less even by some genuine classic car dealers!..

I would however be tempted to buy that Macau blue one, if the funds were in place. love the colour and the silver leather does like nice, shame really he never carried the re - trim onto the door cards to match it all.

In the mean time I'll continue to watch the market and stay glued to this forum.

The Macau Blue one looks nice and although not original, the interior is far from offensive and I could certainly live with that until I found a replacement. If that's all that's wrong with the car, it could be a good buy. The only thing which niggles me though is the dealers insistence on advertising it as an Evo 2 and surely 100 potential (and probably disappointed) buyers have told them it's not an Evo .....

It does seem foolish, although he probably doesn't know enough about them to realise as much. It's certainly a rare colour which really suits M3's well. Although I haven't seen it myself, I am told the previous owner also has/had a real Evo as well as this car and it has been pretty well maintained.

Criticised by myself and Pacerpete who has most likely owned more E30 M3's than anyone else on this thread and as you know, knows more than most about E30 M3's.

Fair points made by others though that it's easily (all be it expensive) rectified and if the rest of the car is good then not necessarily a deal breaker.
