While I'm here , any recommendations on a body shop that can do great work with a bare bodyshell and align the car on a jig for an inner wing replacement and possibly replace the roof for a non sunroof panel, paint, underseal and gap everything up for me to do the trim fit and rebuild , ideally in the s/e of England ? Something like this place https://www.facebook.com/RSGarage2013
Does the car that you have purchased need this much work or is it another car?

I've had my car about 17 years now, but it was stripped down to a bare shell years ago for a rebuild, I got distracted, stuff happened etc etc and now I've made a start selling of a few bits I don't need and buying a ton of stuff I do need.
The car has rust around the strut top/fuse box area to the point where its peeling away and needs a new inner wing fitting. I'm not sure now, but was set on the idea of just having the shell acid dipped and e-coated, but having spoken to a few people and heard mixed results, which includes an M3 owner who had it done but said he wouldn't do the same again, I'm thinking maybe it's not that bad where localised blast cleaning would be best.

As for the garage in the link, sadly they are in Portugal and was more meaning I thought there work looked good and that they seem to have a specialty in restoring M3s. Had they been in the UK I think I just drop the shell off and tell them to get on with it. I don't know of a place in the UK ( yet ) where I feel I could do that. Most just seem to want to rush it in and out and don't much care about details.

Has anyone mentioned this chap to you?

http://www.tonybmw.co.uk/

He does exceptional metalwork and might be just what you are after.

I would also take a look at ARM BMW & Motorsport here in Cornwall. Joe has owned / built several E30 M3 and knows them well. He is close to finishing his Grp A rally replica and has worked on my own, several times. They do everything on site, including paint, so would certainly be worth chatting to.

I have seen TonyBMW post on the Retro Rides forum and do like the work he does in metal repairs and could be an option for repairs but then would have to find a painter to finish the car. Again, the going on a jig thing also seems to discount a lot of people.
Can't help but wonder what the labour rate is in Portugal and how much the ferry is to northern Spain....

www.pristinebodyworks.co.uk restore and maintain BMW Park Lane Classic fleet and their standard of workmanship is very high. The specialise in 70's & 80's BMW, so would have no issue restoring an E30.

Thanks. Definite possibility , that place. I read your thread on Retro Rides and was impressed with the E21 you had done.

This car has now been sold and bought by me!

Nice one, good looking car with the Evo2 bits and the rare colour will always make it easy to sell on. Surprised it hung around so long. Bit of a bugger to keep clean but when it's clean, Macau looks great..........yes I'm biased.

Congrats.

What plans? Will you use it or is it for shows etc?

Seats aren't 'right' trim and runners.

And they have another, lower miles but not quite such a nice spec, drivers seat bolsters look a bit worn.

Wonder what that's going for, must be around the 100k mark given the other.

Also carpet is missing the padding on drivers side and seems to be a darker shade, I'm sure there is more wrong with this than there is right.

I would want something original for that kind of money.

I bought a new carpet from BMW for mine a few years back. The only type avaliable was a generic Anthracite colour (darker than original) and without the footrest section. It cost about £400 at the time and I think it may even be NLA now such is the difficulty in getting some M3 parts.

All gone now Mark. I tried getting one last year but was lucky to get a mint used one.

A lucky find, I looked for months and couldn't locate one, what's more annoying is you can still get the rear kick plate carpet in the original colour but not in the dark shade of the only available front !

Rare big spec M3 popped up at a salvage auction this week.

It's a Cat B breaker, but will be interesting to see if it comes out of the woodwork in the next year or two....

Looks like a M88 engine in there...

That's a shame to see that, I bet it was lively with that engine. As you say, I imagine that car will reappear at some point in the future....
