If that's the case E30s are underpriced then. Of course most would say the cars you mention are overpriced and I would agree. I just don't think E30 M3s are overpriced considering their rarity, their pedigree and their popularity.

Mainly because values have outgrown their savings. Either that, or they're still holding out on the off chance that one with come along at a 2010 price, however unlikely that is nowadays. I think it's a shame that value is such a big issue with E30 M3. It's not just the cars where prices are high though, as parts are getting silly too. Especially with some people buying up whatever is still available. Used parts are just as crazy. Who'd have thought a rear window hoop could make £4000?! or a pair of side skirts £3000?! Rebuilt s14 for £9.5k?! I sold a whole M3 for just £500 more than that about 3 years ago! frown

I think those prices are a bit off. The advertised engine is hardly rebuilt just have a chain and tensioners. If anyone pays close to £9.5K for that tatty looking lump then they've been mugged. There is a complete dressed engine on eBay for near half that currently and C pillar/hoop too that's been for sale for ages at £2.5k. If you find anyone dumb enough to pay those prices or £3K for a pair of skirts, please send me their details.

I was led to believe it had had more than just chain etc but if not, then agree. I see price has dropped to £7k now. The C pillar I spoke of actually sold, as opposed to just being advertised.

Bottom line is if you need a set of side skirts, where else can you go? You can get fibreglass 'race car' ones for a few hundred but quality isn't great. I've recently seen some carbon fibre ones advertised but they're the same high price. They also list a rear window hoop but your still looking at nigh on £2k with tax and shipping.

The engine is on Race Cars Direct too and advertised as the following "Last used in my group N M3 approx 12 years ago for no more than 2 races whereupon a group A unit was installed. Chain tensioners replaced recently and tappets adjusted. Comes with standard clutch and flywheel, engine loom and standard ECU. Various other bits also including alternator "
Hardly selling the engine when last used 12 years ago to go racing and wanting £9.5K. Then again, I think is almost standard to advertise anything E30 M3 at ludicrous money first in a hope people are swept up in a rush that prices are rocketing, and then maybe think about selling somewhere near a sensible price.

Yep, most of the fiberglass stuff I've seen is 'race car' quality and not good if restoring a car. I think the carbon side skirts are £1600. I like originality, but £3K for a pair would be mad unless you were rebuilding a concours Sport Evo and couldn't find an M3 owner willing to swap a brand new pair of carbon items for a set of originals.

In some ways I'm almost glad the C pillar is unavailable. I've seen a few putting these on to 316 shells along with the M3 panels and swapping VINs for crash damaged cars, and this was a few years ago before prices really went mad. I think there's a few owners riding round in restored cars where this has happened.

I don't doubt it.

It's a shame BMW won't produce some of the smaller items (like rear bumper mounts and the like) to help owners keep genuine cars on the road. That said, there are people putting silly price tags on parts that are still available from the local dealership, like kidney grills on eBay for £110 when they're around £35!

Surely you simply get parts put on back order and once there is enough for a batch they will produce them.

In theory yes. Rear panels have been on back order for 2 years with no end in sight.

You could put fabricated parts on while remaining on the back order - once they are built rip out the non OEM parts.

Keeps the car on the road.

The sport evo kidney grill new is £39 and currently in stock, £109 is crazy and to say there nla when there not is mad, also side skirts for coupes are rare but still can be found a pair have been floating on ebay for a while still not sold at £1300.

I have a complete s14 2.3 engine and box (untested) which came with a d reg M3 rolling shell I had in 2010 if anyone's interested I will be moving it on as have no use for it now.

Looks clean....£40k is a big chunk of money whichever way you say it, I think this has been for sale for a while....

Presumably not a Eu import , if it's from Japan would it have a dogleg box?

I noticed the US spec bumper, I thought it just had a Japanese import look about it. Either way it looks clean and straight, I'm not sure it's 40k mind you whatever country it came from. To be fair though, many moons ago when I bought my first, I turned down an SE for a little over 14k citing it wasn't worth the extra 3k so what do I know !

If what I read on the internet is correct, this looks to be Japan spec M3, as US cars got leather as standard and cruise control, both of which this doesn't have. Seems a mix of things with a front bumper with indicators but also with indicators in the wings and nothing in the rear bumper like US cars seem to have. Also has a viscous fan too and Jap spec has the same 5 speed box and diff as US cars.

Some were Nogaro silver I think? Certainly not black though.
