Either that or the classifieds are over selling the condition of some of these cars? I emailed to ask about the history of the one above and also asked about any work done but still no response.

Your 1986 build car seems to have the later 158kw engine ?
This is from the global bmw database at the dealer..interesting that it's showing it as 158kw. Which equates to 215 bhp.

Interesting indeed , but how so ? I don't see how it can be an 1986 build with an engine they had yet to produce. Database error Have you checked the actual engine code on the block ? Sent
I can imagine the conversation with bmw hq...

Yeah..So there are these two Internet experts that reckon your database is crap...??

But out of interest where is the block number
Not quite what I said and you seem to like to put words in my mouth that I haven't said. First it was that I had something against Jap spec cars when I said no such thing. I didn't declare your car Jap spec, I asked a question about the clocks on it and now why an 1986 car is listed with a 158kw engine, which is usually Sep 1989 on Euro spec, like my 1990 car or I think earlier Evo2 and Cecotto cars.
Suggesting a single database error doesn't make me an 'internet expert' or their system 'crap', because as with the ETK that has a fair few errors within it for M3s.

The engine code should be on your VIN plate on the inner wing. The engine number and code is stamped into the block here.

Engine codes are

234EA 195BHP

234S2 215BHP

245S1 2.5l

Finally got round to checking..234EA

This one is back again with a hefty price increase.

I wonder has the restoration been done properly this time.

That's been for sale for at least the last 6 months or more. It probably will end up on a 316 shell, but then get the rest of the M3 panels to quietly re-shell someones spanked M3. There's already a few out there.

Strong money for a RHD conversion that will cost a lot to put it back to original spec.

£41k for a very average car seems crazy also.
Why are people paying 41K for an average car when there is this one for sale for 35k.
Something wrong with this one?

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/b...

Seems to be a few cars on pistonheads for sale that are taking a long time to sell.
Looks like a USA car by the side indicators. Not necessarily a bad thing but would have a limit on value in most peoples eyes
I think this one has come up before and was a Jap spec car. Says 1 owner and looks pictured in Japan with a bit of overspray visible. Bit crappy of the dealer not to say its either Jap or US spec.
Seller says it's a US spec car that they sourced in Japan. No mention of any repairs though.

I was thinking US spec, then went for Jap spec on the basis of the ad saying it was a one owner and it looking like Jap import from where its pictured and some Jap labels under the bonnet. On reflection,it has those vin stickers which I think are a US thing only, and as someone else pointed out, the front bumper has those horrid indicators, but they are missing on the rear.
You can see some overspray on the washer pipes coming out the slam panel and going into the hood.

Given this car was for sale a while back, the vendor would do well to do some updated pictures.

Nicely restored but poor quality respray and wrong carpets..a great base to make into a very special car if someone puts 5k to 7k into it..

Ah, I take it you looked at it as a possible purchase ? Shame if it is being let down by the paint, given it looks to have had considerable work.

Does anyone now run their M3 with satin sills now, or have they all been repainted gloss over the years ?

Mine are satin.

Seats in that car are wrong also, half and half was not a factory option to my knowledge.

You're right, full leather or cloth and m-tech inserts.

Frankly it wouldn't bother me if the rest of the car was 'right' as it's getting really expensive nowadays to get a car up to collector standard condition.
