Just had mine replaced yesterday, the fitter said they only have BMW screens for the M5 no alternatives available, which is good news for those worried about a cheap copy.

Who replaced yours, I need mine doing frown

Went through my insurance it was National Windscreens, I went out to have a look at the screen had the BMW and Pilkington logo's on it.

I probably stated this in an earlier post on this thread, but MAKE sure you contact your insurer & use their nominated Windscreen company. Also inform said company that you MUST have an OEM screen due to the Auto lights/wipers/HUD as they'll likely fob you off with a suitable screen, but it won't have the BMW logo & this 'could' invalidate your BMW warranty on items that require an OEM screen.

Yeah they ran through a series of questions around cameras etc. when I called them up.

Another one bites the dust!

Driving home tonight and bang! Heard it like I had been shot. Got home to see the chip with a 30cm crack too.

I understand standing my ground with the bmw windscreen but anyone had trouble with fitting at all? Or will AG or national be fine to do it. If I need to pay more for bmw to do it I will. I just want it done right. This is on an m6 GC

Happy to talk you through the process about nominating your own repairer and the fitting process thereon.

No issue as the major Glass companies will happily fit the OEM screen, but will usually take a few days for them to get one into stock.

As above, just make sure you inform the insurers that your BMW warranty will be invalidated if an OEM screen isn't used.

NO issues with the quality of the fitting? I assume these guys doing it day in and day out will be better than paying extra to get BMW to do it.

IME, the BMW guys will do it by the book and use every 'use-in-conjunction-with' part listed. The problem is, not all are experienced enough. Each dealership will have a couple of guys trained on glass replacement but they won't be specialists as such. It's not unusual for them to struggle on a windscreen (and take all day doing it) because they simply don't do enough of them. Doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad thing - or that they'll do a bad job - but when they get stuck it's the day-in-day-out guys they *might* call for assistance.

Thanks for the reply. Just checked my policy and the approved repairer is auto windscreens, general view is to stay away. I might fork out a bit more and request AG to do it or BMW. This isn't fun

Speak to your insurer and ask.

Had to replace the screen on my M2 and Autoglass were going to take nearly a month to fit me in.

LV agreed that I could go to BMW and get it done by them, only catch was I had to pay for it and they would reimburse. Got it in writing from them and had it all done and money back in my account within a week.
