And rather sadly (as an F10 M5 owner) it's faster than the M5 in a drag race frown

Tesla faster then an M5
The launch on that M5 was shocking, it span up at 2 points.

Like for like, my money would be on the M5.
I noticed that but it still was on the money yes

Tesla Model S 4 wheel drive? Please explain.
Seems I was wrong, I thought it had 4 motors.

Gets good traction off the line in any case!

Look at how rapidly the M5 is gaining toward the end then a dodgy cut later its somehow moved back then starts to gain again!

I've got a test drive booked after my hols and will have a better idea then.

I don't think it's too shabby either way, all it needs is a fake V8 roar in the cabin............... now hang on a minute scratchchin

Looking fwd to having a schlep in an i8 this wknd but I think if i was leaning towards such a car then the Tesla S would be more my cup of tea, although the i8 does look stunningsmile

I'm going to the stealers on Thursday to enquire and try to arrange a test-drive. I've been toying over the M4 and the M6 for some time and each has its flaws, so may as well look into the i8.

The Benefit in Kind is a tiny 5% so the cost of leasing is tiny for a £100k car, plus you get the government grant of £5k which helps a bit. I wouldn't buy one or finance once privately unless there was a massive dealer contribution though, like the M6.

In terms of looks I think it's stunning in all of the photos and videos I've seen. I hope in the flesh it is even better.

Does anyone have a solid source for all UK slots being taken up for 2014, or is this coming from BMW directly (i.e. the same as the M4 '9 month waiting list' in other words bullst)?

It only has one motor, driving the rear wheels (although the similarly shaped inverter makes it look like 2 motors).

I wonder if they're airing on the side of caution. It's a new segment of the market, who can safely predict where things will be in 2 years.

Also, ouch.

I thought it'd be expensive to finance. Have you weighed up leasing through your company (if you have one)? The figures I've done the lease is around £1200 per month and the BIK would be about £2k a year to me personally, plus some NIC of about £400 a year.

By comparison an M6 to lease would cost me well in excess of £14k a year BIK... Gulp

I was hoping that the GFV would have been nearer £65k @ 24 months and the apr nearer 5% to get me tempted

Unlikely to offer 5% APR before it's officially launched. Maybe look around Xmas time see if they're doing dealer contributions? The majority of the comments I've seen are 'great car, too expensive'...

Went to the dealer launch last night, it is a really special looking car and very impressive. If I had a spare 100k then I would seriously consider one.

Anyone know what the life of the battery is?

If a Prius new battery is £7K and expires after 7 years thereby virtually wiping the value off of the car, what's the score with a BMW i8.....£20K??

Interesting thread in this "M" section about depreciation, I wonder what these new hybrid cars will give us??

Could be a premium.

I see this as the new M1.

Genisis.
What do you think now?
