29 degrees and I was happily driving rather sedately past Heathrow this afternoon with my windows down enjoying the warm weather when a new M6 GC pulled up alongside and then gave it some beans.

Feck me yikes

I do hope my F10 sounds like that, bloody amazing as he pulled away and I never had any idea just how good they sound.

It was also a lovely blue and looked absolutely bloody brilliant yes

They sound great from the outside! Had a guy follow me into a fuel station the other day and told me from behind it sounded like a fighter jet. Standard exhausts too 👍

I was driving a Comp Pack M5 today with the windows down and when I changed up a gear the woman at the bus stop almost fell over because the crack on the upshift was so loud she turned round so fast to see what the noise was!! PMSL.

The V8 does sound epic in Sport Mode.

Does the standard M5 have the same exhaust as the comp pac?

I can get a crack fro 2nd to 3rd but not in any other gears.

No, the Comp Pack has a different rear silencer with different (less) baffles. It's also got a different engine map, with an increase to 575bhp.

Definitely one of the best sounding standard cars that I've ever driven. I would love to try one with an Akrapovic exhaust, I think that would be heaven. :-)

I've only heard one F10 M5 being floored proper, I thought it sounded pretty good, doesn't deserve all the criticism it gets IMO.

I've too think these sound outstanding from the outside...one of the best sounding cars I've had. As I've said before, I have no idea why they have such a bad reputation, which I can only assume is created from those who have never actually heard one.

One things for sure, it's definitely a whole lot better than our M3 which really doesn't sound that great out of the box.

Drove Anglesey last week & got told by several people that my F10 M5 sounded amazing as it was passing the pit lane at full chat. Defo one of the better sounding cars, however my old R35 GT-R 650R complete with full Titanium worst did sound better as that was also on track.

Just been to a supplier and with the windows down the odd crack as you go from 2nd to 3rd is great yes

Couple of questions......

Why does it only happen sometimes even though I seem to be accelerating in a similar fashion (almost like it requires a small fuel build-up prior to the crack?)

Why only in 2nd to 3rd confused

28 degrees, windows down, M5 going ROAR................. cloud9

mine pops/cracks when I hit the throttle than ease off quickly just as the turbos start to spool. Sound awesome!!

Mine does the same - i am slightly concerned that i am doing it a bit of damage every time i ease off quickly. However highly addictive around the tunnels and buildings of Manchester.

M1 - sports plus all round, with automatic shift/drive mode
M2 - sports plus all round, with manual shift and traction control turned off.

Every time i sit in it i love it, every time i look at the outside i realise how much it costs to get the little "pops and cracks.."

Even in neutral when you apply a degree of downforce to the loud pedal you can get a quite violent crack (love it), however it only happens sometimes. Try this usually when reversing into my garage which then amplifies the sound but i can work out why it only happens every now & again?

You can hear the crack from the outside at 1min 06secs in this video.

http://youtu.be/4nyOU22JX98

Mine did it in 2nd to 3rd today!

Wish it did it every time, could be software controlled? I remember reading that Merc I think programmed AMGs to do it every 4th full attack gearchange or something similar.
