Sounds fab, then again I think they also sound great with the standard exhaust :-))

Funny things these car forums....

Have had my 997 Turbo for 5 years now and even after reading on PH countless times how boring they apparently are, I still love mine to bits and have never once considered it to be a dull car...especially the handling or when accelerating in 2nd....or 3rd....or even 6th ;-)

Likewise, recently bought a 2011 E92 M3 DCT to replace my ageing 330D only to find these are also considered boring by the PH massif. I'm loving mine and just can't stop driving it !!

Perhaps it's because I have the Yorkshire dales on my doorstep so can enjoy these cars in an environment that suits them ? Perhaps I'm just boring !

Anyway, it's great we all have different opinions and different tastes in cars however my M3 leaves me anything but cold ! One mans meat is another mans mustard and all that.

So here's to boring cars :-))

I find that the PH massive tend to disagree more than agree. I think you may be right about the right environment. Most people I know who live in cities seem to hate driving whereas the country bumpkins I know seem to love it.

I live near Banbury but there are some cracking roads around here. Out this morning for my sunday morning blast and there are at least 3 cars I always see doing the same thing. Even had a wee chat with a guy at a set of lights about our cars, although he was on his way to work not having a little spin. I doubt if I lived somewhere like London that I would be doing the same thing every sunday morning.

Really! Horses for the courses I suppose. I found the RS4 utterly dull and patheticly understeery. Certainly wouldn't be tempted to take it to the track, it would be a fish out of water. Great everyday, all weather car though I imagine.
I Have to agree, dull was my finding and I had the very last of the B7's.
Sold it for the M3 E90.

Have to agree too. I test drove an RS4 and didn't like it at all. Went for an E46 M3 instead. The wife has had a few Audis now and presently drives an 11' S3, it's a great way to cover ground quickly but it just doesn't excite me in any way. It's probably nearly as quick point to point but I'd be listening to classical music in the audi and rock in the M3.

It must be a Yorkshire thing, I've just come out of a GT3 RS ( had an offer I couldn't refuse! ) and got a E92 M3 DCT the same as you and I also love it! It's never ever gonna be an RS, but then the M3 does so many things the RS couldn't, or maybe it would, but what a pain....

The M3 is also more than capable of doing the odd track day as well, boring, mmmm, what do you think? smile

Same for me in Scotland, common theme seems to be the type of roads on our door steps smile

Agreed, but it's not only the type of roads that we drive, it's the way you drive the car. I've only had the M3 for a couple of months and in my opinion, is not the type of car to be driven in the city for the majority of its life. It does this task with total aplomb of course, but this is a 420bhp performance car which loves to be driven hard, it only really comes alive when it's being pushed hard and I mean really hard!!!

OP, get a proper test drive, on some proper roads and give it the beans.... smile

I'm gonna be brave and say it...

Could the E92 M3 hold strong against the the Fxx versions and become the pmodern world E30? Even taking cost into account, unless the F can offer 30mpg, it's not a tempting prospect for me at the mo. Seems many agree.

Early indications are good, E92 prices are holding strong so far. Still early days though. Judged on autotrader/pistonheads prices I'm confident I could get what I paid for mine last year stil. In fact the closest car for milage, spec and colour is £4k more than I paid last year.

I felt exactly the same going from an e36 325i to an E36 M3 years ago. Very underwhelmed to start of with. We can't all be wrong when saying it really does take time to bed in with an M3. I did nearly 10K miles in my E92 comp pack car until I REALLY fell in love with it in the Alps where I got to drive it harder and harder and each time found more an more confidence and ability with the car. On a recent trip to Wales I felt the same thing all over again at 25K miles learning I could extract even more out of it. Yes they are big and don't excite under 5K RPM but when on the right road in the right mode they are incredibly capable even with much more exotic cars around you. Yes the E92 is a bit of a lump compared to older models but the front end grip with the PSS tyres is astonishing. smile

OEM mod does much improve the experience too imo. I get far more enjoyment now.

Slightly OT..

Saw my first M4 in the wild today, Yas Marina with Black alloys.

Not impressed, looked "plastic-y" didn't have quite the road presence of a E92. Just IMO of course.
