I searched this forum but did not see a post from anyone who installed the Supersprint F1 Race muffler/Back Box on the E60 M5. I did not see a video of it installed on the E60 M5 either. Thought I’d share!!!

I wanted to upgrade only my stock mufflers, leaving the stock pipes and header. I was not sure which exhaust brand to go for. I didn’t want the mufflers to be too loud, but to have a deep tone sound. I drove my friend’s E60 M5 with Eisenmann Race but it was too loud. I had heard that Supersrint sports muffler was good, I called Supersprint but was told that the previous Sports and Race mufflers were no longer in production. They’ve been replaced by a new range of sports and Race and they recommended the F1 Race muffler.

Absolutely impressed! The F1 Race has a deep tone at idle. It gives a combined deep tone and a scream when I open the beast up. Standing next to the bonnet, the diesel-esque rattle noise is gone. From a distance, the deep sound complements the look of the beast. As much as I tried not to expect a noticeable difference in drive, I definitely noticed a better drive: the car feels more powerful (even if not the case); the rear of the car feels more balanced.

I decided to weld it, though. I’ve never been a fan of clamps because they move over time, when the bolts get weak. I will not be removing it anytime soon, welding is fine for me.

At half the price of the Eisenmann Race, the Supersprint F1 Race is definitely worth itsmile

Hi,
I bought them from Larkspeed for £1,100 delivered in 3 days. They beat the price on Supersprint website (when VAT has been added at checkout). If you go with Larkspeed, as the previous Sport and Race models have been discontinued, you won't find the part numbers on their website. If you go for the F1 Race, call and give them these part numbers: 046936 (Left) and 046906 (Right). They will quote you a price.

You're correct, I looked up Eisenmann Sports and Race as well. On Eisenmann's website, the Race is £2,211 and it's the equivalent of the Supersprint F1 Race. Not just considering that it is half the price, the SSprint ticks my boxes for what I want from a muffler.

Nice, thanks for sharing!

What's the difference between what you've got and the other 2 Supersprint exhausts which Larkspeed have on their website?

Hi, i looked on Larkspeed the other day and it worked out about £1100 for back boxes but that was obviously the older model thats not available anymore. Thanks for those part numbers, i've had my E60 M5 for about 10 months & would like it a little louder but not too much. I bought an Eisenmann Sport for my old E39 M5 and that was perfect sound level. Race E is way too loud for me. Is the Ssprint not too loud ? I know you welded yours but did you get clamps or bands with it ?
Would love to have a proper listen to this Ssprint F1 race before i buy, are you anywhere near Kent ?

Thanks
Simon.

I called Supersprint and they confirmed that the previous Sport and Race mufflers are no longer in
production. http://www.supersprint.com/en/GB/prod-276-7152-bmw...
These previous models (4 part numbers: 2 (Left/Right) for Sport and 2 (Left/Right for Race) are the ones on Larkspeed's website.

The new Sport and F1 Race muffler models are here:
http://www.supersprint.com/en/GB/prod-276-12581-bm...
These are not on Larkspeed's website but if you give them the part numbers, they can get them for you.

When I listened to the Eisenmann Sport and stock back box, I hardly noticed a difference. On the other hand, the E Race was too loud. I did the listening in a crude way though: I listened to both stock and E Sports clips at the same time on the web. I did the same for Supersprint Sport and stock back box; I noticed only a little difference but for some reason, the SSprint sport is more expensive than the F1 Race. Though better price, it was always the F1 Race for me: deep sound, not too loud in/out of the car, diesel-esque rattle noise is gone, and it comes alive when I open up. Some one else may like something louder or quieter---M5 drivers always want perfectionsmile
Not a problem, you can come for a drive. I'm in Docklands, 10 minutes from the Blackwall Tunnel (A2) so should be ok for you. It will have to be either an evening (after 7PM except Thursdays) as I don't drive to work, or on a Saturday morning around 11AM. I don't think I qualify for a PM/message yet, give me an email address?

I'll take you up on that offer since I work in the Wharf, but in a couple of weeks. smile

This has to be the best sounding system for an E60?

Sounds great but VERY loud. Also probably costs a fortune :-(

I'd imagine just the exhaust is not as loud. I looked at these a while ago and from memory, the rear section was around £2k from the US. Sterling has appreciated since, so it should be cheaper.

Had a ride out this evening in PrettyBeast's M5 , the Supersprint F1 race gives a nice deep tone rather than a raspy noise.

Good to meet you Abi, nice M5 you have there and thanks for taking me out in it.

No prob. Funny to see the look on your face when you saw the 'too many' traffic lights on the road. 22MPG normal drive in your neck of the woods is greatsmile. I will try and catch up with you at the next PH meet in Redhill.

Good advice here
I opted to go with the Super sprint F1 boxes on the standard BMW exhaust keeping the resonator.

In my opinion the E60 exhaust note needed a lift, I didn't want to go too loud and this is a good starting point.

I'm happy with the result and it's louder on idle and acceleration, cabin wise the increase is hardly noticeable at motorway speeds.
You could go further by deleting the resonator or switching over to the Supersprint centre section with cross over.

I'm very happy with the result i have.
