I'm looking at a car at an AUC, I've had a quick look round the car to check service history, number of owners, looked in boot and front to see any weird weldings that might indicate a bash, tyre wear etc...

Is there anything else worth checking on an AUC car or are you pretty safe? Do the 120 point checks actually get carried out and do they mean much? How good are BMW with the warranties on AUC cars, and how likely are you to be able to haggle a 2yr one?

Thanks!

yes you can probably haggle it up to 2 year cover and if already prepared for sale there might not be much else to look at. Always worth checking anything you would like done (is there plenty of meat in the tyres, disks, pads etc.) and can usually haggle some things to be tidied up (any scuffs in the paint, parking dings, alloys all clean) or the correct years satnav disks etc. Any services, brake fluid change etc. coming up that they could do before collection.

Edit to add the AUC warranty is pretty water tight and covers everything you might worry about.

Warranty is pretty good and yes it should be haggle able
get confirmation, in writing, that the running in service was done on time. If not it'll bite you when you come to get rid of the car

Cheers guys, is it worth checking anything else? I know when buying some of the other cars I've been through you'd ask on the forums "anyone know this car" etc. to check if the owner had banged it into something on a track etc...

With the AUC cars, it's a gross generalisation, but do they only tend to retail the "good ones" and send the rest to auction?

Don't buy into the AUC hype, I've seen many horrors AFTER AUC prep.

The warranties are indeed excellent, but it should not be the case, although it often is, that these serve to cover some repairs/issues that were either not picked up during prep or, more likely, we're deliberately overlooked to turn a quick buck.

Buy on history (check it yourself) and condition, get support from a friend or colleague who knows his stuff.

A chat with the previous owner can be helpful and very illuminating.

Agreed - AUC is a good start but buyer beware applies just as much.

check as much as you can such as the paint. Oh and check the warranty history! I bought into the warranty bs on an 18 month 7 and it was a dog-broke down constantly. Turned out the warranty printout was 20 pages long!

if you can haggle a 2 year warranty - do it - mine was £1200/yr sub 60k miles and now at 67k = £1647/yr. agonised whether to renew warranty - but literally on day it was due to expire - all dash lights/engine safe mode kicked in. it turned out to be nothing - but it caused me to renew warranty immediately. I love my e90 and will drive it into the ground - good luck with your purchase OP!

Tell them you will leave a deposit on the car if they throw in a 2 year warranty. That usually gets them interested.

Best to do the warranty monthly if below 60k miles as it doesn't increase then.
