That's the way of the good ones, they don't hit the radar. There are done which are advertised month after month so must be nails... I remember going to see one which sounded great and seller made all the right sounds but was a complete state- so glad I knew by then what to avoid!

I saw an immaculate looking Dakar E36 down at college a month or so ago, it looked like the newest car in the car park. Not sure what it would have been worth but I'm pretty sure I would have picked it over an E46 at the same money. Although I do think its the only one I've seen in that sort of condition which is a shame.

If i didn't already have the same engine in my M Coupe I would be very interested in the E36 M3's.

[quote=(steven)]We all know E36 M3 asking prices are on the rise.

However I had a look on the E36 M3 section of the classifieds today and while there are some large asking prices out there, a lot of the more expensive stock is still around from when I purchased mine at the start of the year.

I don’t need to know the details but has anybody actually purchased recently at say above £6K?

Is the price increase real or just a few car dealers chancing their arm?

I paid £30k for my E36 M3 ...

... (in 1998);)

I also paid £7k - ish for a LHD M3 GT in 2006. I spent probably £3k + on it in a year and sold it for around £8k .... I believe that car is now in Germany. There are absolutely so many dogs out there buying one now must be the biggest minefield since the Astra GTE 16v!!

As I said in my previous post I have paid (well) over £6K.... For a one owner low mileage Evo Cab.... Good low mileage/ownership cars are becoming hard to find.... I think and (hope) they start to follow Z3 M coupe's and 840 Sport's.... For the reasons i'v already mentione,ie I now have all three tucked away....!

Well. Mines up for sale now frown

Couple of reasons really. Firstly I want to downgrade to just one car and secondly I now have two jobs which means I work around 65-70 hours a week. Anyone who owns a car like this knows that they require time investment as well as financial to keep them tip top. Unfortunately I no longer have that luxury so ideally require something newer.

Probably not the best time to sell either. I reckon they'll be nearing £10k by next summer. Especially saloons frown

I know i'm going to regret it. Just like I regretted selling my mint Corrado VR6.However, onwards and upwards as they say; already perusing the classifieds for an E90 M3 saloon hehe

Interesting.

I'm likely looking at getting into an M3 in the next year, and had rules out the E36 because I think it looks so dated whereas the E46 still looks quite modern. What did the E36 have in the locker that the E46 didn't?
There are a few things I prefer about the E36 over the E46.
1. Its limits are lower so at normal road speeds its a bit more fun.
2. Its less civilized so feels quicker at the same speed as an E46.
3. I prefer the looks (personal thing)
4. The suspension is softer so its better for low to mid speed driving which is all that's possible on public roads.
5. The seats - again a personal thing they are much more comfortable for my body shape.
6. It doesn't have those stupid lights on the rev counter.
7. I prefer the sound its still raspy but not as obvious.
8. The steering is better than the non CSL rack E46 M3s.
9. The traction control is annoying in the E46.

Things I preferred about the E46.
1. The engine
2. The engine
3. Its more modern (headlights etc)
4. Its quieter on the motorway

Objectively the E46 wipes the floor with the E36 but I have personally got to the point where what I want from the car is not 100% based on how fast it goes but character etc. The limits of the E36 are perfectly fine for use on the public road also.

I think it depends what you want the car for and how much hassle you are prepared to put in. E46 are new enough to run for a few years before they start to need a lot of time. The E36 are reaching the point where you need to spend time and money as they are an old car. If I was buying one of these based on a limited budget I'd go for the E46.

There is a story behind that cab. Apparently the owner refused to pay a garage bill and it's sat ever since.

Just got sent a message telling me I am "tripping" asking £7k for a full BMWSH M3 that's had over £4k spent on it in the last year. Probably a dreamer who thinks he can get a bargain! Every other M3 on the classifieds is £5500-£12000 so not sure how mine can be classed as expensive!

Beat my edit wink

I've just bought an E90 M3 saloon so if it doesn't sell I'll feel pretty special having two M3 saloons. I certainly can't afford the F10 to complete the set hehe

A lovely set indeed!

Yep, the good ones have had money thrown at them, I always seem to be the stupid owner to do it though. I've spent about 6500 on mine in 2.5yrs... Eek

Well from a buyer's point of view the amount you spent on the car doesn't really matter. Usually you'll never get back the time and money invested in a vehicle (not even the guys on Wheeler Dealers).

I agree, but look at the others on offer. With the exception of the cabs which are cheaper due to high supply they are either modified or around the same ballpark (£6-£8k)

138,250 miles. So about 8,000 miles a year, nearly 17 years old after all. Still in line with all the other cars though.

Might just lock it away in the garage for a year anyway. Always hate selling cars!

Mines done 60k with FSH and EVERY invoice ever spent on it Inc the original purchase invoice from it's one retired owner and I don't expect to put much more than 500 miles a year on it but I have bought it with investment potential... So whatch this space...!
