Echo all of that ^^^, having run E39 before and sampled a few E60/63s. Yes the V10 is great - when you use it fully. But there's too few places/space on the licence for points to *really* do so, so you just end up using more fuel for an engine that doesn't sound anywhere near as good in normal driving, minus the tactility of the manual shift and easier/more useful day to day "torque everywhere" feeling of the V8.
Concluded I'd only be choosing an E60 to have something that looks more modern, ultimately. Plus if it's 06 onwards you're into £500/year VED which whilst not the be all and end all of running a performance car, is near enough double that of the E39, plus E39s are eligible most places for classic insurance if it's a second/third/weekend fun car doing a lowish mileage - every bit saved on boring "admin" costs of ownerhsip leaves more for fuel and funding Phil Crouch's kids' education/holidays.
