Having a few issues with my 7500 mile M135i. It has developed a misfire, BMW tech guy located it to the car detecting a misfire on cylinders 3 & 4, it then shuts down the fuel injection and becomes much much worse.

It been in the dealers now for 2 weeks with no sign of them being able to fix it. They are in contact with PUMA Germany but as yet don't have a resolution. Surely they should be able to solve this in 2 weeks. Has anyone else had this issue and maybe shed some light on what might fix it. They've been through plugs, coil packs, HPFPS & compression tests.

I'm now at the point where I'd like to reject the car as a lemon, but they didn't appear to like that idea.

Help appreciated chaps.

I wholeheartedly sympathise. Keep persisting. Argue that it is unsafe and dangerous (which it is in a way)

I hope that someone has considered faulty injectors.

Yeah, they've currently been through plugs, coil packs, injectors & compression checks. I'm not a happy owner.

Depending on how old it is you may be able to return it. Check your consumer rights on one of the government websites and you'll see exactly where you stand and don't listen to a word they tell you.

2 weeks being without your car is too long, not what you paid for. Any decent garage should be able to diagnose a miss fire very quickly. If you want to keep it and get it working again it might be quickest to just take it to another dealer, although they might be even worse than the one you're using. The level of workmanship at BMW is consistently shocking in my experience.

Get on their case and be unrelenting. My recent two experiences with a BMW dealer showed them to be useless and only concerned with ripping you off.

Ok, so your car has developed a problem after 7500 trouble free miles. Your dealer is attempting to fix, and is seeking guidance from Germany. Have they given you a courtesy car meantime?

Seems a bit early to be calling it a lemon surely?

Yes they have given me a 40k mile 320d which is 4.5k miles overdue a service. I'm off on holiday next week driving through France to northern Spain. The whole idea of the holiday was to enjoy the M135i, hence this issue is beginning to grate on me. Hopefully they will fix it this week, but I'm not holding my breath. I've used this dealer in the past and don't have much faith, sadly it broke down locally and they were the nearest for recovery.

How long should you wait before it can become a lemon? 2 weeks and counting seems fair in my book. I'm paying for something I don't have and is not fit for purpose.

well i think you are about 10 weeks and 5 visits off it being a lemon, 2 weeks is nothing.

if you are pissed off about the curtesy car, ask for a nicer one and tell them where you are going and why.

my CSL was in for a few weeks and Elms Cambs gave me a 430 first then when I told them i was off to wales for a driving holiday in the CSL, they gave me their brand new M5

I've already tried that, they've nothing available. They have said they will swap the 320d but it's a rental so the replacement will be something similar. They also advised I should be thankful for having a car as they aren't obliged to give me anything!

I know it is frustrating but you are likely to be winding the dealer up talking about rejecting cars and lemons at this stage, they are not going to help you out with an attitude like that.

For now you need to be friends with dealer and service manager.

Another week goes by and guess what, yes still not sorted. They advised me yesterday they had ordered a new ECU that would be arriving today. Just had a phone call to advise the ECU is on back order and will take 7 - 10 days to arrive.

Seriously unimpressed, I'm off to Spain tomorrow in the wife's Kia Sportage instead of my M135i. Somehow it won't be the same.

So BMW will have had my car for over a month to fix a misfiring issue. I've had loads of BMW's over the years including many M's. Something tells me this will be the last BMW I will ever purchase.

I once said that. Not wishing to down play your issues. I had a lot of problems with my first model year e89. Lots. I persisted (but moaned a lot) and now, touch wood, have a car that I still adore and all is well. I'd still consider another BMW but I'd not get a first model year and I'd also do a lot more research.

Mine isn't a first model year - 63 plate.

I also said it about Ford after suffering 6 months faults with a MkIII RS Turbo, I've never owned a Ford since.

I'm in a similar predicament with my BMW M6. Car has been back 5 times to the garage in 2500 miles of ownership.

From what I have read you have to give them THREE attempts to fix the problem before rejecting it.

I too planned a road trip to the north of Scotland with friends and family but the whole experience has just exasperated me that I'd rather do anything but drive a car at the moment.

Hope you get it fixed ASAP.

PS: If it's a lease car, contact the lease company?

I feel for you too, that's shocking.

Sadly it's not a lease but on a PCP with minimal deposit, I'd be quite happy to lose the deposit and just walk away from it.

My 63 plate just had the DME replaced. It took a while due to the factory shutdown and the fact the part needed approval. Apparently part no's have changed, so it's not straightforward getting things replaced now either.

Jimmsey, what was the problem with yours to replace the DME, same misfire?

Update, they think the new DME has fixed it. I can't collect it until next week so fingers crossed it has.

OK, it's back with me but is booked into their bodyshop to fix the gouges they've put in paint on the rear quarter. I despair.
