If BMW were offering 0% on the M5, it would work out cheaper for sure than the M6 GC.... even my man math spreadsheet cannot hide that fact. However, there was always a part of me that didn't like the exterior of the M5. The M6 GC looks much better. It also looks like there are more options as standard than the M5 (e.g. HK audio and alcantara headliner as standard) - I was looking at upgrading to the black alloys on the M5 @ circa £2K, whereas I am actually very happy with the standard wheels on the M6 GC.

The interior also looks a class above.

I am planning to start negotiating this week, but I want to get a handle on my spec. So far I am looking at:

1) Laminated climate comfort glass all round
2) Sun protection glass

That's it... I am not a big fan of all the driver aids, but am considering the rear view camera - does anyone have any strong opinions on the camera?

The only other option I am toying with is the M Sport Seats - are they worth the extra?

Is a powered boot standard?

Cheers all.

The M6 GC is a big car I have the surround view on my M5 just sold and have ordered it for the M6 GC, it's a must have for careful parking and avoiding wheel damage IMO.

Surround View is very useful in the GC, it's not essential as the PDC is pretty good, but it is well worth it to be able to see exactly how far the wheels are from the kerb and also the guide lines to show where the car will go at current and maximum lock. Just wish there was a front camera as there is on the i8 to give you the full 360 view. Reversing camera I could probably do without TBH.

Visited the first dealer and crunched some numbers:

M6 GC - £99,463
BMW contribution - £7,500
Dealer - £12,000

Net Total - £80,027
0% finance (48 months, 13K miles) - £998/ month

Incidentally, they are also doing 0% on the M5, but with only a £2K contribution from BMW - worked out at £725/ month

The dealer claimed a 12% margin on the M6 GC, so they did a good job by offering the £12K discount. Last time round, BMW were supporting the dealers by an extra £6K which is why the deals are not as good now.

I am now undecided between the M5 and M6 GC. On the one hand, the M5 will give me more of the space I was looking for, but on the other, the M6 GC is (in my eyes) a much better looking car inside and out.

It is a shame the deal I got is still not out there, M6 GC CP for M5 money was a "no brainer".
I enjoyed the LCI M5 BUT it seems just a 5 series to me, not special at all.
If you can go to the M6 GC do it, IMO it will be the better car overall.

Check out Peter Vardy BMW website. They are offering £12,550 off an M5 at 0% and £21,604 off M6 GC at 0%.

Is it just me or is that a really crap deal? Take a look at this one:

http://www.petervardybmw.co.uk/current-offers/new-...

Edit: sorry I see you wanted the GC: http://www.petervardybmw.co.uk/current-offers/new-... not really much cheaper than your quote. Seems all the decent offers have dried up? Broadpseed have dropped their discount from £29k to £18k, presumably as they are offering 0%...

I prefer the look of the M6 GC over the M5 but found it too wide for our narrow UK roads. Even the M5 is unsuited to some British B roads - I sometimes find myself covering ground slower in my M5 over my wife's 116i on certain roads.

You get used to it quickly, I have the 640MS D this week till my M6 GC CP arrives Saturday, same width bar a1/4" Inch, no problems on B roads at all, farm tracks are not were I drive though.

Do F1X M6's come with a service book?

Looking at a used one and the non franchised dealer tells me there is no service book - it's all electronic. Is this the case?

Car is a Sept 2012 (62 plate)

Yes this is now the case, all you need to know is on computer.

Interesting, what would happen in 10 years time when it doesn't necessarily go to an Authorised BMW Dealer for servicing?

To be fair though, someone will and it's a good question!

My F06 M6 has a service book.

It's white and says 'BMW Service' and 'Evidence of Maintenance Work' on the front! Most of the book is a key to the various symbols in the check boxes for each service in 27 different languages. Each service entry, of which there are 26 in the book, has an entry for mileage, date and a dealer stamp plus check boxes for

- Vehicle Check
- Front Brakes
- Rear Brakes
- Brake Fluid
- Mobility System
- Engine Oil
- Diesel Additive
- Spark Plugs
- Recirculating Air Filter
- Micro-Filter
- Air Cleaner Element
- Fuel Filter
- Gas Pressure Spring Of Engine Compartment Lid
- Electric Powertrain
- BMW M Pre-delivery check

It's obviously a generic booklet (P/N 01 40 2 901 444) but relevant to M cars as well as Diesels and Electric vehicles. Maybe it's 'optional' but personally even if they were not supplied as standard I'd insist on one being filled in thank you very much!

Electronic service history was introduced to the M6 from March 2014 onwards. Older builds do not have this functionality and should have the old fashioned paper record.

that would explain it, mine is a September 2013 build. I'd still insist on a service booklet though, how hard can it be to write the date, mileage and tick a couple of boxes!

I'm not sure, the electronic record is pretty cool and I assume happens automatically now - can't remember the number of times stamps have been missed in books on previous cars, plus easy to fake and quite old fashioned!

I can post some screen pics if anyone is interested to see it in iDrive?

I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I'd just want the paper version as well!
