Bear in mind these are low volume specialist models - they don't need or necessarily want to sell tens of thousands of them. Just as many as the factory can comfortably build, without leading to an unsold glut in airfields.

They don't *need* to give them away...

6 month lead times aren't much to fuss about these days, on many mainstream vehicles, let alone niche models. Factory lead time for the Transits and Customs I sell are at 22-24 weeks from order for instance, Rangers are 35-56 weeks! (hence dealers forward order, hold physical unregistered new stock and sell from that first, to offer customers reduced lead times if they can be flexible on exact spec).

People here complain that "Ford must be mad to be losing sales on them" - they're not at all. They have sold every single one they can build, six months ahead of time. If some buyers who want one now can't wait and go and buy something else from another manufacturer, they've lost nothing, because they couldn't build it anyway. Production capacities quite often aren't infinite. It also means we don't discount them very much due to lack of manufacturer support available. Could well be similar for RS6.

It also helps keep residual values for the cars that do get built and into customers' hands relatively high, which keeps those customers going back to them and reinforces the brand value as justifying a premium, a bit of a wait and not much of a discount.
I`ve just waited 6 months for a factory order transit dropside built to my spec. However when i ordered on July 7th was told 12-14 weeks

My M5 LCI was delivered to me within 6 weeks to my spec

Gorgeous car, but given that the new M5/6 is beginning to be spoken about in the press I think BMW are going to have to offer eye-wateringly good deals to shift them.

I think even used car wise these are maybe becoming hard to shift. I pretty much check the M6's prices everyday and many have dropped 7k within 2-3 months. I have seen near enough 6 month old Coupe/GC/Verts for 65-70k so a two year old one should be cheaper than 50k.

I've just committed to a new M6 GCP. Discount I got off list was 21K plus 0%. Obviously looked at some of the approved used cars but best APR % I was being offered on one of those worked out at a higher monthly payment than the deal on a new car at 0%. Got the impression the current deal and 0% will go, at least for a short period, when the slightly updated car becomes available as this deal was on the basis of it being a current car, rather than waiting for the update, as has been said doesn't seem to have been much of a difference in appearance anyway so not really fussed on this. My main reference point is that I bought my M5 in early 2012 long before the big deals became available on the M5 and I'm now getting a M6 GCP for the same price effectively as I paid back then for the M5. Well that's what I keep saying to myself now to try and ease my anguish on what I've just done.

I'd been lurking on this thread for a long time changing my mind every day over the last few months on whether to go for it. If the guy who was driving the black M6 at speed and overtook me on the A12 between Colchester and Chelmsford the other day is on pistonheads then I hold him responsible for my decision, just looked bloody awesome!

the delivery date is a matter of weeks, the car is already built and en route to uk. I presume it may be someone's cancelled order? Just has to be handed over to BMW uk from wherever it's been built and then delivered to my dealer. Am assured it's a brand new car with zero miles, not yet registered with uk number plate. The car was already showing on BMW uk's inventory but not my specific dealers, they apparently now have to buy it from BMW uk or something along those lines?

By taking on this car I had to compromise on the options I would have speced but the exterior colour and interior was what I had in mind, got the impression there were several other brand new RHD physical cars in other colours too apparently available on whatever inventory they looked at but not in black which I wanted.

Spec is very modest:

Black sapphire,
Standard carbon trim and the standard silverstone leather.
Black alloys,
Sun protection glass
Speed limit display
Camera

None of the big ticket options. Would have probably gone for comfort access and soft close doors as well if I'd had the choice.

Also getting the basic 5 yr service plan, fitted tracker and lifetime subscription, set of genuine BMW winter alloys/tyres and the specific dealers tyre and alloy insurance product all rolled into the deal as extra sweetners alongside the basic discount offered.

In fact despite checking the Edinburgh dealer exclusive offers regularly when I did the deal last week the best they had was compatible to my deal but it looks like they've changed again and now have a new dealer exclusive deal approaching 25k discount and 0%. That wasn't there last week. When you take into account all those above extras I suppose what I'm getting just about reaches that but I'm sure there was probably potential to squeeze a bit more out of it.

Bloody cars!

Unless BMW have changed the wheels, which is unlikely, that car was built on 23 September last year.

There are only 2 Sapphire Black cars with Black 343Ms in the UK, the other has Multifunction seats, both have Silverstone interior.

Well that's probably it then, wasn't really taking too much in when the current status of the car was being explained to me, was still thinking about what I was going to tell the wife, definately was told it was still at the main BMW uk side of the supply chain process rather than already having been passed on to a specific franchise dealer.

Unfortunately I don't usually have good restraint on car matters, once I had decided I was going to go for a car and as soon as I was aware there was one available at short notice in the exterior/interior trim colour I wanted I said ok, accepting that the options list was slightly off from what I would have ideally taken as the trade off for getting behind the wheel a few months earlier than I would have done otherwise. In fact even this is actually a wait for me, all the "new" cars I've bought before have been physical cars already in the showroom or ex demos etc...never ordered a new car as a new build from scratch, this is the first one ive ever bought without actually setting eyes on the exact physical car at the dealers before buying it.

PS: definately not yet a uk DVLA registered car as I have had a choice of number plate registrations that can be assigned to the car.

Presume it's been in a storage compound either in Germany or already with BMW uk for past 3 m or so if it is the September build car.

The usually take a good month from build to landing in the uk. With Christmas etc, it's probably only been sitting available for a few weeks effectively.

It has been with the first M6 GC CP I ordered and rejected at a storage area here in the uk.

My original order was the same as I have now Alpine White Sakhir Leather many extras, it's still as far as I know in a compound here.

To be honest that's a good deal and the standard spec on these cars is so good, some of the other stuff you are never going to wish you had or miss. The only thing for me if I was buying a used one is I would try and get one with B&O but in saying that i would never let me stop it getting a great on without one!
The only thing that was a must for me was the HUD and that's standard!

The big new discounts aren't helping values for existing owners at all.

I have a highly spec'd M6 thats 14 months old with 4400 miles and I'm struggling to get £50k for it. :-(
