"Comfort access" is just the marketing term used by BMW for the system to lock/unlock the door by touching the handle in a specific place or to start the car when you're inside it using the s/s button. I never used it on any of my cars, the last car that had it for me was my Vauxhall Astra VXR in 2009. Depends if you think you'll use it. Put it like this, I didn't miss it.
I thought comfort access was the door handle piece and the "comfort start" bit was standard on 5 series/6 series since probably 3-4 years ago or something ?

I have this on my mini cooper s 2007 "station car" and I *never* use the touching the door handle button feature but ALWAYS start the car without putting the key in, and curse every time I get in our X5 which doesn't have that and needs a key which seems really dated in a 2013 reg car

So to cut a long story short, for me, the "comfort start" is more valued than the "comfort access". I'd also like B&O smile

As I understand it the car starts at the touch of the button irrespective of the 'comfort access'.

Anyway ive gone for San Marino blue/silverstone leather, Reverse camera (how can this not be included on a £100k car?!?!), driving assistant, surround view, speed limit display, sun protection glass and the 20inch alloys.

ETA get ready for the prices to fall even further next week:

Episode 2

[i]Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May embark on a grand road trip across Australia's Northern Territory.

Tasked with picking a fast, luxurious GT for the trip, Clarkson chooses a BMW M6 Gran Coupe, Hammond a Bentley Continental GT V8 and May a Nissan GT-R, as the trio set out on an adventure that takes in crocodile-infested rivers, a race around a vast open-cast mine, an encounter with the world's longest lorries and the majestic scenery of one of the world's least-inhabited landscapes.

Their dusty endeavour concludes with an unusual challenge involving a farm, their cars and 4,000 cows. Also in this episode, Hollywood legend Kiefer Sutherland is the star in the Reasonably Priced Car.[/b]

On 4th day of ownership now, even though keeping to running in limits it just seems to press on relentlessly, seems the dampers in comfort mode are set up more compliant than with the M5?

Love the black exterior and black alloys, with the lower roof profile it just looks obscene, like a stealth bomber, can't stop smiling. Car got a lot of attention on trip up to London at the weekend. Am getting winter alloys painted black at dealer to match summer stock wheels. Oh my vanity knows no ends, I've even replaced the dust caps with ones off eBay with little M logos on them.

I went from being passed by a black M6 at speed about 2 w ago which set me off on this path to having a ready built unused new car on my drive.

Disadvantages of having no patience for a new personal spec build and some personal observations for anyone specing up a car at the moment, particularly if moving from a pre LCI F10; will definately miss my M5s comfort access and the M6s stock sports seats, although comfy, don't have the full range of movements as my M5s M multifunction seats and the headrest won't take a rear seat DVD bracket which kids aren't happy with. The stock H/K sound system also seems a step up from the standard system I had on my 2012 M5 so fairly happy with this as well, Christ knows what the bang & olfesen must sound like but the HK sounds great to me. Will never go on track so don't think I'll miss all the hardcore comp pack and ceramics but would have liked the chrome black silencers of the CP.

I got a headline discount of just under 21k off the list price of the car and 0%, but also got discounts thrown in on track star advance purchase/fitment/lifetime subscription, winter alloy set, service pack and tyre/alloy insurance and paintwork protection etc. that took overall discount on total list of all these items to around 24K after totalling them all up. All these "extra" items soon start adding up on the final grand total. No doubt I could have probably pushed harder especially as I now gather my car has been sitting ready built since September but I'm benchmarking against what I paid for my M5 in early 2012 before all the big discounts and 0% deals appeared, am actually paying less for the M6 GCP.

For anyone going for it currently hope you get a great deal,
Congratulations on your new toy.

I note from the photos that we have near identical tastes in cars.....!!

Just had a crazy phone conversation with BMW insurance, anyway the car had a trackstar advance tracker fitted which I was told was latest model, category 6 etc....practically making car unstealable by the sound of it. Anyway when I told BMW insurance they said their underwriters would not cover that as it didn't have enough data available for it on stolen car recovery success rates as cheaper trackstar category 5 models which they were willing to insure. This is despite the fact that when you check out trackstar advance online everywhere comes up saying it's advertised as being BMW approved. Basically could only get the BMW insurance if I took it back to dealer and had tracker "downgraded". Fortunately found insurance elsewhere at comparable price but it seemed to be a bit strange that BMW insurance would only insure with a lower spec tracker and not a higher spec one which is BMW approved apparently....or have I been sold a turkey with this trackstar advance model?

There's a thread on this very forum (M Power) about trackers. If it isn't a requirement on the insurance then I would never bother. I don't want to piss all over your bonfire after just getting a new M6 but paying for a tracker (via a dealer no less...) is money down the drain in all honesty. Arguably as is paint protection, but that's another story.

http://www.trackerfit.co.uk/trackstar-advance.html it's a GPS and GSM tracker with motion detection. This item will render it useless in a few seconds: http://www.jammer4uk.com/high-power-8-antenna-3g4g...

I have to say since I seen snap shots of the M6 Gran Coupe being on top gear I have been counting down the days since it would be on. I was honestly glued to the TV when the M6 was on, I fell in love even more so than I already am - just love the car.

Hopefully it will be a buy for the end of this year.
Has been my dream car since it has been out.

Same here, my only question is whether I would be tempted by the hairdresser version (convertible). Doesn't look anywhere near as good though. Gran Coupe looks better than the Coupe which is just crazy. Liked how Clarkson described it as a 4 door version of a 2 door version of a 4 door saloon or whatever he said !

Haha Very true,
I have to say the least favourite version in the coupe for me but for some reason I loved this one:
http://usedcars.bmw.co.uk/M/4.4-M6/Borehamwood/349...

Think this is a gorgeous convertible and very tempted to get a vert - don't know if i'd call a M6 vert a hairdresser version lol

and the gran Coupe:

Gorgeous!

Hi All, I haven't been on in ages, good to see some familiar names still on here.
I'm looking at replacing my F10 M5 with a M6GC, in about 6 months, for you who have already gone through the options lists again and again, is the Full Leather worth the £5k?
I used to have a 640D M sport and if memory servers in came with Full Leather as standard, if so why doesn't the M6.
I can't have any light colours for the leather as I still play and also have two football mad boys
I will definitely tick:
Sun Protection
Reverse Camera
Maybe:
Comp Pack
Full Leather
Any input would be very much appreciated

Hi, forget full leather, to expensive, go Surround View- a must and Comp Pack also transforms the ride and handling.
O went Alpine White a nightmare in the winter. Good luck with your choices.

If I remember correctly the M6 does come with "full" leather option as standard however there is then the "FULL" leather option meaning the place is covered top to bottom in leather, from what I have read of peoples opinion on the option it seems to be a nice addition however if you didnt feel your 640d was lacking in that dept I wouldnt bother, you would certainly love the B&O option!!!!

Thanks gents ...... back to the options list.
Do you know what lead time is usual, I read someone saying 6 months?
Another dilemma
I love BMW's but I've now had 4 on the trot X5, M3 coupe, 640 & M5, and they are all fairly similar inside, great but similar.
I'm slightly tempted to look at RS7 or CLS63 SAMG, the M6 looks the best prob drives the best, the Merc has got ridiculous power and the facelift looks good, the RS7 is all weather fun, but a bit Chavvy .......or a Maserati GT???
Nice decisions I know but I love cars and really care what I drive...apologies if I sound like a tw@t
