Just trying to get quotes for a proposed M4 purchase, I'm over 40, low risk area, no points etc and full NCD..

Usual broker cannot get anything reasonable at all, almost 3x the cost of the (more expensive) Porsche that we were thinking of... He challenged and was told the reason was the M4 had a 12x greater risk of being stolen.. no idea where they are getting that metric from, perhaps based on the OCB thefts...

So, on advice of dealer tried BMWs own insurers...

After all the usual preamble..

BMW: "Does the car have a tracker?"
Me: "no" (under £70k so not expecting to need one)
BMW: "we can't quote as it hasn't got a tracker"
Me: "ok, if necessary I can arrange to get one fitted so can you provide a quote based on that"
BMW: "no, as you've already told us it hasn't got one"

Ok, that's paraphrasing it a bit, but talk about computer says no. Had to tell the dealer that I can't commit to buying the car (currently in the showroom) until I've sorted this and now haven't got time to be chasing/phoning various companies

So there's a nice Blue with Silverstone car in Vines of Guildford looking for an owner...

They really are ridiculous! They have a car sitting to be sold and they refuse to quote. That's the problem these days with such heavily system based approaches....

Hope they get it sorted for you, if not just wonder over to the Porsche garage....

Just use Confused or the likes. Once you have a profile created it takes 2 or 3 clicks to get loads of quotes.

I believe Allianz underwrites BMW insurance.

Currently on 7 day insurance with them. They couldn't give me a quote as the computer said no! Quotes from manufacturer insurance is always outrageous.

How hight is the Quote?

I'm 34, have 3 points, and a few non fault claims at present, and I managed £664 on confused.com, car value of 68k with it parked on the street and no tracker, in Newcastle upon Tyne!

And where I live now is 20% higher than our other property.

Churchill quoted me £325. I am over 50 and car is garaged. No voluntary excess, £550 compulsory excess. No tracker was required

Mad. I have no idea why but ive just insured my 2010 V8 saloon with 7 years NCB and 7, 000 miles a year for £350. I'm only 29 years old as well. Car is on a driveway.

Everyone at work was stunned. One guy at work who's mid-40s and drives a 1.9TDi A4 is paying £600 a year!

I swear they make it up as they go along.

M135i with BMW - £245; my Z4MC with them (which I just sold) was £285. My 635d £214 with Admiral.

45, full NCD, driveway, West Sussex.

We'll think I've solved it, just over £400 with LV but needs a tracker, so yet another cost....

How odd. F10 M5. No tracker. BMW insurance just a few quid over £300!

Wow, who is that with? I'm 27 with same NCB and I pay £550, which I thought was pretty good!

My insurance dropped significantly to around £350 this year, for a modified e36 m3 in a really bad postcode...lottery!

Not an ///M car but I've tried to get a quote on 14 plate Audi S4 and 63 plate 335i M Sport and the best quote for the S4 is ~£200 cheaper!

I was going to say, cut these muppets out and just go to LV=, but you've done that already!

LV= Fully Comp, £250 excess, port NCB, Age 63 and I pay £185 pa for 2012 E92 M3.

They insure all my cars, house and dogs.
Claimed twice this year on dogs, not even a quibble (that's LV= not the dogs)
F***ing brilliant company.
They DO like tracker though…...
