I have owned 2 E60 M5s and 1 E92 M3. I kept both M5s for 2 years each and did 15,000 miles pa in them. I owned the E92 M3 for less than 4 months before I sold it.

The E92 M3 is a very accomplished car but (imho) boy is it boring. Yes it will be cheaper than the M5 but in my view, life is too short.

Thanks for the reply.

My budget is roughly £25k so I'm afraid I'm looking at the cheaper selection of main dealer cars. It just gets me into an dct car which I would want.

If I were to wait another 6 months how much do we think they will have dropped? I.e. How much of a better car will I be able to afford?!?

Haggle with them. They have sizeable margins on AUC cars.

And where do you think prices will be in say 6months? Dropped massively or not?

Depends on car, condition, dealer mark up etc.

I'd say M3 prices might drop due to the new model. The V10's IMO are being 'cult classics' in that they are the last and only V10 BMW made, high revving, sound awesome etc so they may firm up or even increase minimally.

I've had an offer on my BMW V10 M6 for £18000. I paid £22850 for it. Apparantly it is one of the more desirable spec models despite not having blue tooth and a TV.

What are your thoughts on the auc m5 in Derby at 18kish? Not too keen on the interior but quite like the 55k miles.

Don't like the colour or interior (although it is full leather).

Condition and previous service/faults resolved are more important than mileage so don't let that number cloud your judgement.

The E60 M5 will be more expensive to run but if you buy the right one and only do low miles I don't think it will depreciate much at all.
I only do about 4k a year and not had any issues with mine after 11 months of ownership. Every drive is a joy with the V10. I use a V70 D5 R Design as a family car which I find far more practical ( 2 trips to the dump today ) and more relaxing to use for most stuff as I don't worry about door dings in car parks etc plus 600 to a tank. M5 is just a hobby car.

I just can't work out which I want.

I'm thinking the m3 is the sensible option and prefers the looks of it. Just have a nagging feeling that v10 is so much more special!

The V10 is amazing, plus they're pretty rare!

Even standard they sound insane under full chat, I adore mine, I'd hand on heart say get one, BUT, make sure you can get along with the gearbox.

I personally have no issue with it whatsoever now, but a lot of people never quite get on with it.

Think give it a decade and the S65 E9X M3 will be in this boat... higher rev limit, higher specific output/lt, and engine of the year for 5 years in row....

I am getting an Eisenmann exhaust put on mine this week. If you thought they sounded great as standard wait till the Eisenmann is on....F1 V10 screaming!

Word of warning, 8.4k revs in a V8 can be seriously addictive biggrin

Not everyone's S85 is limited to 8250. wink

Evolve can help with this as well as many others. KMS racing engines builds S85s which use all stock internals and rev to 9K. 8500 is nothing...unless you worry about things like warranties. biggrin
