I think this is the 1st time i've ever uploaded anything to YouTube.

Thought i'd post a link to some of my Spa laps as well as a flyer round Nordschleife:

Brilliant smile

Some questions......

Do you remember what setting you were driving in....the gear changes sounded slow confused

Have you do anything to the standard brakes/fluids, my brakes can fade on a hard drive pretty quickly?

Does the camera move or is it an illusion?

if you leave the DSC on the brakes will overheat on some tracks pretty quickly, DSC off and i struggled to get them to overheat. Not sure if that is true at Spa but Spa is not a big brake killer compared to some Uk circuits

Looked like the driver had a great time but typical of a package with loads of power, all the driving was really done on the straights and the corners were just the boring bits between

M1 which was Sport Plus for all those settings, auto at level 3 & TC fully on.

Later in the Spa event i tried MDM & was quicker & then had a play with the paddles, but never on the same lap as by then i was nursing the tyres.

Brakes were never an issue & still have 60% life.

Video was fooked up by YouTube as when i uploaded YT suggested stabilising the video & that caused the clip to look stupid. Am uploading again now so will look better tomorrow.

I'd hardly say all the driving was done on the straights & the corners were far from boring, but perhaps you can see different in those clips. Is only so much you can do with 2 tons of German metal. Early in the 2 dayer at Spa i was a little more committed in the corners, but later backed off to preserve tyre wear. The Spa clips include a lot of traffic in places on many of the laps as this was my first session filming so the track was busy.

Tried MDM a few times & that helped a little, but still couldn't get out of Bus stop quickly as the car bogged down. Tried twice in manual mode to force 2nd gear with TC off & you can guess what happened thensmile

I was gonna suggest getting a better mount... yeah you should never let youtube stabilise the video!

But almost 10 minutes around the Ring, come on you can push harder than that smile

Uploading originals again & will change the links in this thread latersmile Stupid YouTube.

My best lap (in a B7 RS4) was 8:29 BtG back in 2007. Traffic was light & that makes all the differences. Holding back due to other vehicles having bad track position as no way of knowing they've seen you or will stay left is a lap time killer as you lose so much momentum, that along with 2 quite severe accidents with the yellow flags also impacts heavily. I reckon without these i'd have nudged 9mins but was my 1st lap in 7 yrs & 1st time round in the M5 so i wasn't going to push too hard. Will be back next year.

Thank you for posting the vid. Why did you use auto and why didn't you take the traction control off completely?

Apart from exiting Bus Stop, their would have been no advantage using paddles over Auto other than the sound effects as the 3 ferocity settings apply to both auto & paddle.

As for Traction completely off, that would have been a very brave but very stupid move. In M Dynamic Mode which knocks the TC down to about 30-40%, the back end was very lively & thus hindering speed through some corners & the couple of times i turned it off completely, you can imagine the outcome so for my 1st proper track outing in a RWD car (had mainly AWD prior) i decided to air on the side of caution & sensibility.

Drifting round corners i'll leave to the yoofs.

When i return next year i may turn the bravery wick up a little, but as above i find drifting comical when seen on track days & it often ends in an accident or black flag so i didn't fancy either of those outcomes. Also only had the car 4 months so still exploringsmile

You are completely right .. doesn't take much to go off and it would be nice to be able to drive home afterwards! looked brilliant

Great stuff Paul, I'd love to do this too!

I agree with having it in MDM, as too much slippage with other cars around can be catastrophic.

Mind you, I once did a few laps of Snetterton in my old E60 when the track was near empty.....fully monty, DSC off.....it taught me a lot, especially how much lateral grip cars like these have.....slow in, progressive throttle on the way out and all was wonderful.

What's with the groaning?

And FFS use the paddles!!

😄👍

It's a good point but really has no advantage other than audible effect. Was my 1st time round Spa in a RWD car so the less i had to worry about, the better. Even the instructor said their's no point adding an interaction that isn't needed.

When i return to Spa next year i'll certainly explore the cars capabilities more & will defo give the paddles more of an opportunity. Will be a perfect setup somewhere in the big bag of F10 M5 options but now need to find it.

New fronts when on yesterday & the fitter even filled all 4 with Nitrogen yesterday so see if that makes any difference. I did say i'll not be on track again this year but hey ho i can at leafs monitor the pressures to see if it does help.

No idea about the groaning, may have to investigate this. Could be my replacement for singing as i think that's wholly inappropriate on track;)

DSC off was not a setting i was comfortable with other than a couple of times for showboating so it was only deployed a couple of times. It also unbalanced the car as the front was soooo grippy, when the back did break it did so very quickly & was quite difficult to judge.
