£1050 per bank at a main dealer (they'll just replace the whole unit) I had both replaced in my saloon and had one side done last week on my touring, along with a leaky diff too - gotta love that warranty..

That warranty is like a golden ticket!

I've had to use it 5 times in 10 months!

What have been the issues with yours?

It's always good to hear what other owners have experienced as then I know exactly what I'm in for.

My C5 RS6 is also a costly beast to run.

Eddie, what did you have to claim for?

Brake fluid over-flow (by supplying dealer)

VANOS pipe

VANOS valve

Parking sensors

Thermostat which bizarrely lead to the stalling of the car

Pending clutch issue which is 50:50 on the warranty but I think I'll get that sorted myself for less than £1200 rather than paying nearly £3000 for BMW prices.

I'm sure more things will occur into ownership biggrin

Thanks for the info and I'd probably do the same regarding the clutch.

Clutch and fly.
Throttle bodies.
Intakes.
Front discs.
Tailgate wiring.
Some relays and a few other minor ailments.

Can you explain abit more about the stalling of your car mate? I'm having something similar myself.

They told me it was the thermostat which wasn't regulating the temperature properly and causing the car to 'overheat' and cut off as a safe guard to protect itself.

I've been told to keep an eye out on it, as if it comes back it could be idle control actuator.

Try Comma Petrol D-Tox as it has worked for some people

Also....don't use the air con as much as that can mess with it quite a bit too. I still use my air con but not as much as I used to do.

WTF? With that logic perhaps not using the car would be best - unlikely to develop any faults.

Really?

500bhp must be enough power to drive a small aircon compressor

Honestly it baffles me too....to the point where I think I must have a bump on the head because it makes so little sense.

Whenever I use the air con, the idle pulsing was more pronounced. I can only think it was related to the thermostat as that is what was replaced and went away. The pulsing is still there now and then but if i turn the heaters on it runs perfect on idle.

Wierd I know.

Mine's been pretty good too:

new clutch and flywheel (not covered by warranty so paid for by me for roughly £1250)
VANOS solenoids (never showed as a fault but diagnosed via DIS - replaced under warranty but made no difference that I could see/feel)
pre-cat oxygen sensors (one had a heating circuit fault - replaced by me for £60 each)
new diff seal (paid by me as the cost of £196 was less than my excess)

I went with the maximum excess of £250 as I was after cover for catastrophic costs, not the smaller inevitable bills. So far the warranty has not paid for itself but then again someone has to fund the likes of ecains63's claims! smile

It's good to hear some fairly positive comments.

From what I've read on here and M5Board, at some point in the cars life, you'll need to replace the throttle actuators as they're pretty much guaranteed to fail it seems.
Apparently some have failed with mileage as low as 30k....incredible.

This and rod bearings seem to be the most expensive issue to repair.

I have owned mine for 1 year this month (E60 M5). It's covered by the BMW Mondial warranty but I've not had to use it yet, car has been100% reliable. It's covered 55,600 miles now and had clutch, flywheel & clutch position sensor replaced at 39,000 miles before my ownership.

Mine is the same, covered under BMW warranty and i've not had to use it yet, same as my last one as well! Doh!
As i said on a previous post, you only ever hear the negatives on the internet, the positive experiences far outway the negative but if someone's car is working fine they generally don't come onto the internet to tell one and all about it hence the bad experiences look like problems plague every car ever made!

Tis very true.

Hopefully you won't be needing to use that warranty during your ownership.
