I've decided to upgrade my iPhone 5S to a 6 so with an Advanced Snap In Adapter not being available yet i need to free up my USB port for the iPhone so i can still benefit from Connected Drive etc.

This means i need to ditch the 64GB USB stick i'd been using for Music, Films & Music Videos & copy these onto the cars HDD.

My car is a MY15 & i'm trying to find out the capacity of the HDD i can use for Music?? I've read the HDD was only 80GB in total on MY13 & earlier cars but this was increased to 250GB late in 2013 so i'd assume unless the Nav Map files have quadrupled in size that i can store a good amount of media on mine but for the life of me i can't find out the factual storage limits??

Also, can the HDD take other forms of media such as Films etc. (assuming enough room exists) or is it purely music files??

Many thanks in advance.

I'm not sure of the HD size or type of playable media (which doesn't help sorry!) but this is one feature I've never used.

With the introduction of 128gb iPhones and the seamless bluetooth connection (which works really well) why spend hours storing music in the car confused

It's a good point but I've often tended to leave music off my iPhone as only listen to it in the car & at home so usually have either a large USB stick or the cars HDD for music &/or films & music videos.

Now I'm losing the cradle I need the USB port so want to put media on the HDD as it's there so may as well use it, but need to know it's capacity? I'll likely now use the iPhone too but what media can be streamed from that, just music or video too?

I think you only get between 20 and 30 gb for music.

However, there is another solution assuming you already have the iPhone 5 cradle. Just get a lightning extension cable and connect it between the cradle and iPhone 6. All you lose is the external antenna connection.

Pretty sure you can't stream video (I believe you can put a DVD into the single slot in the dash and watch a video on the screen when not moving), so music only.

Perhaps the lightning extension is a good idea?

Answered my own question by trail & error.

The capacity is just a touch over 20gig & you can only copy music files to the HDD as it ignored the video content & profile data on the USB stick.

Took about 35mins to copy 19gig of music from my USB stick tot he HDD but it does this in the background so no hardship.

Well done smile

If I copy my iTunes library to a USB stick does that include music I've purchased from the store?

Yes, but you have to copy the music folders to the USB stick from the root directory. Usually under C drive, Music, iTunes, iTunes Media, Music
