OK I have a problem with the M6 GC CP, from memory my LCI M5 started from a stop in D1 mode in SECOND gear.
This M6 starts in 1st ALL the time and can be dangerous in traffic, it can jump forward if you are not vey careful and wait till the engine has engaged before applying throttle.
Can someone verify the M5 in D1 starts in 2nd gear?. thanks J

Yup, mine does. Sometimes starts in second, sometimes first. Not sure what the rule is around which gear it chooses but even in 1st it's never struck me as dangerous....

Hi Tony, this M6 GC CP in first gear in traffic from a stand-still is dangerous, if there is an incline say then you tend to just off the throttle on the power, but in first how this behaves it just jumps forward!!.

Here is a bit more info : http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1050...

Read through the thread.

Strange as my F10 M5 always pulled away in first but my new M6 always selects 2nd to pull away in??? I personally feel that in second its seems to ride the clutch so I always drop it down to first with no issue's.

Maybe there is no link and each car is different??

Could be just a clutch/valve re-adapt required , not sure.

As above. Mine does either/or & no idea what drives the selection other than if i've been pushing on it's more often 1st & if pootling more often 2nd, however that may purely be my unqualified observation so don't quote me on that.

Never felt uneasy pulling away if it's in 1st though, either D1 or manual 1. Do get the odd kangaroo hop but it's a rarity.

I have a 2013 M6. Only had it a week. I do find it a little jerky when crawling in traffic. I assume it's just a feature of the car. Don't have the same issue with my 550bhp Jag XJ which is super refined.

Yes, it seems to use 1st gear a lot!

Sometimes 1st.
Sometimes 2nd.

Slightly more in 2nd overall.

John, my m5 stays in 2nd gear when the car's warmed up and I'm stuck in traffic. It'll allow me to pull away in first a few times (maybe 3), but if I've been stuck under 9 mph (which is when it usually selects 2nd, if doing Auto changes), it'll stay in 2nd when the car next comes to a halt. I actually prefer it to be in 1st when pulling away from a standstill in traffic (and all other situations); it doesn't feel right from 2nd and seems to need too much gas to get going properly. Wish mine would do what yours is doing cos I have to knock it back down into 1st!

If you select sport+ I think it goes straight to 1st gear.

Mine pulls away in 2nd once warmed up. I typically pop it into 2nd manually to prevent any silly wheel spin.

This was my one gripe about the F10 M5 but a quick tap on the throttle when it's stationary in 2nd and it drops into 1st automatically...so it doesn't bother me anymore.
