Is the RS6 better than the M5? if not then how can they justify an extra £30K .. more if you take into account low discounts on it from Audi and healthy discounts from BMW.

I thought the RS6 was 78k list VS 74k for the M5?

You might be right .. just seen an RS6 in classified for £98K so it must fully loaded.

I would have the M5. Did 140 mph in an F10 and it was a beast. The handling of the RS6 is not as good as the F10.
F10 for me.

To spec like for like you'd be approaching mid £80k for the RS6. In comparison to the F10 M5 they're quite priorly spec'd.

That said, they do sound better & off the line an M5 would have no chance against the RS6 & would only be catching up once hitting 3 figures. Round a track however the M5 is quicker but i'd expect that to vice versa if the track conditions were wet.

Both great cars & don't forget the M5 is Saloon only & the RS6 Estate only. Check out rs246.com for models of info & the volume of very pissed off buyers/customers (not the cars fault, just the way Audi handled RS6 orders this year.

I tried both but M5 wins by not being an estate. Why not make a bloody saloon. Plus the M5 is way more iconic and felt more nuts opening up the taps. 4wd can dull stuff. And lastly, Audi are very stingy on options. The M5 comes with a lot of toys as standard.

Both great cars though.

No way, it's all about the estate and touring which unfortunately in this case means the RS6 wins!! biggrin

How would you know? You're not old enough to drive!

Depend on where you live. If you live somewhere like Scotland, the RS6 would make more sense due to its all weather ability.

The M5 though, I am convinced, is a 600BHP monster (BMW are too conservative with their BHP figures) and in the right hands is a total weapon and can make the RS6 look limp.

I had a (2008) V10 M5 touring and handed in for the RS6 4.0 (2013), and the Audi is the better car in my opinion as it drives better in bad conditions where the M5 struggled

If BMW do the new M5 in tourer I will look at it

Fair enough but if you needed a car that drove well in bad conditions, how come you went for the M5 in the first place?

In my opinion, the M5 Touring has a far more luxurious interior and just feels more special.

I have to admit I love the current the RS6, the interior is lovely the spec as standard is quite generous, I'd have one over the M5 which is a very impressive car too.

People talk about horrible depreciation on the RS6 but you try finding one for under 70k (AUC) they were doing deals on them a few months ago but have just revamped the range so can't see any at the moment.

One day.....!

Ah yes, the C7 is a different beast entirely. I love the interior in this model as it's definitely more luxurious than the C6.

After I've had enough of the M5 Touring (I need to get it first), I'll only have the choice of either a Merc or Audi and at the moment, I think Audi are in front.

Purely & simply that Audi try (& fail) to bolster used RS prices. Check PH classifieds for how much they're actually selling for.

What were these deals on C7 RS6's? Bottom line was Audi wanted double for the RS6 than BMW wanted for the F10 M5 & having driven several C7 RS6's, they're good & although off the line quicker than the F10, as a package they don't quite match the M5's experience & certainly not twice that.

Saying that, if you need an Estate then no better one on the market as far as I'm concerned.
I've checked on the PH classifieds as I've been looking for a while, the cheapest is 68k from Romans hence my comment about pricing holding up at retail (of course that doesn't reflect what they pay for them trade).

IIRC they had about 8k off them in the summer and 4.9 APR not as good as the M5 deals though as you say and the deposit was quite big.

They certainly are quite expensive especially as BMW are offering 0% and 10k of the M5.

Oops, my post's vanished.

What Audi try is to throttle supply of RS's & they fail as the inflated prices trigger a free fall at about 18mths. Saying that, they depreciate no better or worse than the M5. Order book on the RS6 closed about 3 months ago & Audi cancelled customer orders. Check rs246.com for more detail. This has had a positive impact on used prices. Also whereas you can get an M5 built to your spec in 4-6wks, Audi quote 6-9mths. Once this balances out the car's drop like a stone.

Also bear in mind that the RS is more expensive to start with & to spec an RS6 to standard M5 spec is about £10-12k more. Many in the used market were £85-90k cars which is why they're trying to market them in the high 60's.

I think the RS6 supply situation is stabilising, the problems were due to the facelift and the right dealer can now get you in a car within around 3 months. All uber saloons depreciate, the RS models do slightly better than most but it's negligible when you look at the overall picture. I have had extended test in M5 and RS6, they are both fantastic cars and I have to say I preferred the interior and technology on the BMW, but dynamically the RS6 blew me away, it also looks the part which may or may not be an issue to some, but it is to me. In the end I bottled it and went for an RS4, I considered the RS6 to be overpriced and the M5 deals at the time were nowhere near what you could get 18 months ago, so I did the sensible thing and ordered an N/A V8.

Agreed, but if you check with those who were/are buying, their are still many issues & i think you're optimistic with 3 months, although some dealers do still have the outgoing models available (only a few of these though).

The RS6 is defo quicker off the line & it also sounds better, but once moving for me the drive becomes a bit numb & even with AWD the handling is quite vague although still making good progress.

The RS6 is wayyyy over priced & as i said before, i could have got 2 F10 M5's for the same money Audi were trying to get for one RS6 & even deploying man maths, that was never going to fly.

Yep, the RS6 is way overpriced, although the picture is complicated by the discounts on CLS 63 and M5. I wobbled a couple of weeks ago on my RS4 order and enquired with my supplying dealer on the delivery time for the RS6, told me if I got my skates on I would be in a car for March 1st, so more like 4 months, my maths.

YES RS6 way over priced compared to AMG and BMW "M' Cars. I test drove the RS6 C7 after selling the LCI M5, I bought the M6 GC Comp Pack, much better car all round IMO.
0-60 times do nothing for me, and once rolling the M6 wins.

I really like the GC but I need an estate and 4WD is a big comfort as I live in the Peak District. In days of yore I used to run a weekender alongside a 4x4, but as i get older my priorities have changed so I want a single car that does most of what I need.
