I've not seen these Auto Express runs previously posted.

The M5 easily outruns the Merc:

But then have a look at the time of the RS6:

The RS6 is obviously a rapid machine, but had the M5 hit its limiter? I recall the M5 does 0-150mph in the low 18s.

4 wheel drive and launch control help on the RS6.

Over 100 mph they are closely matched but the RS6 is a proper weapon off the line.

Is a bit sus but they do launch very well & will hit 62 in sub 4secs, however the GT-R is closer to 3 so odd the M5 & RS6 beat the GT-R.

I'm surprised by the time of the S63 too.

If you recall the Chris Harris M6GC vid, he hit the limiter pretty quickly and the AMG then sailed by:

Given the 1.8km distance used, I can't see how a number of the cars wouldn't have hit their 155mph(ish) limiters?

I could be wrong, but not all the cars in question were owned by the manufacture and are actually the owners cars. The RS6 certainly isn't a VAG demo. Plus, their not pro drives, not that would matter for a drag race, but could be a factor. The C63 is driven by the PR Director for MB UK as he had pics all over his twitter.

Maybe the GT-R owner didn't want to give it the beans.

Also, back to the original question. Quite surprised the M5 won. There are have been a fair few American Automotive videos where the E63S wins in a straight line.

Remember, the US E63S is 4 wheel drive (the UK is rear only), so over a short distance the US Merc would have the advantage.

I think the M5 is the faster car once moving due to a better gearbox.

Just been in touch with the guy who ran the F10 M5. The RS6 was derestricted & the M5 wasn't so was done by 160mph. That makes sense as to why the RS6 looked so rapid in company.

No idea why the GT-R faired so badly as they're not restricted.

RS6 is a weapon, no getting away from it. Standard guise they are 3.4s to 60 with good traction. There is a stage 1 car with an EVCU and TCU map that has recorded 2.8s to 60. Insane pace!!

That's quicker than i've heard/experienced. Thought stock cars are around 3.7/8?

Know of one that's off to DMS soon so i'd expect that to return as something ballistic.

Car and driver got an RS7 to 60 in 3.4 seconds but that does include a 3ft roll out (worth 2-3mph) and you're knocking the 2mph off the top as well compared to the 0-62 quoted by Audi.

So you can add a couple or three 10ths to that number giving a 0-62 of about 3.7, still very impressive.

How soon into the run did he hit the limiter?

It's ridiculous that BMW UK don't offer the car de-restricted. It may only be useful on a handful of occasions during the cars lifetime, but their M cars are supposed to be halo products.

The M5 has been quoted at 3.7 to 60 so I'd be surprised if the RS6/7 couldn't improve on that.

I'm just quoting the article, the US testers tend to get the best results due to the roll out etc...

CLS and M6GC figures to argue about as well knock yourself out....

He reckons 4-5 seconds so a fairly significant difference.

Is stupid having such a powerful car limited to 155mph, especially for those owners who track their cars & take them across to Germany.

Hypothetically, how would somebody go about this..? (via PM if necessary!)

If you want to keep your warrenty, then you can have the M Driver's package retrofitted in Germany.

I think that only raises it to 175mph which is kind of stupid given the standard 155 limiter is actually 165 in reality.
