I've been to see this already and have another appointment booked. Keen to hear the Forum's feedback.

http://www.knightsgarage.co.uk/076bmw.html

I need to follow up on the Running In service as think that's a typo. If not, that could be a problem as it's too early, which might explain why it's had an Inspection II at 37k...?

Edit, followed up on Running In and it is a typo. 1,169miles is the correct number.

Too many owners for my liking at that price.
I would buy privately from an enthusiast personally.

But these are great cars.

I think it's a little overpriced even with the hard top included. It's a very early car too which adds to concern regarding the price but if it's pre tax increase you could be onto a winner (very rare). These cars tend to have a high turnover of owners so I would be less concerned about that.

Early services/inspections are more likely on cars that have only done short trips, as it is based on fuel usage/consumption.

Shorter/lower gear trips will consume more fuel and will shorten the time/mileage between services.

Mine does about 25k a year and gets 14k between services. Others will only get 9-10k between services.

Yep, research on the Z4 forum suggests 4-5 owners at this age and I'd probably only keep it for a year or two myself. The last guy didn't have it for long as he ended up getting divorced, which is a bit of a shame.

It would be my intention to sell the hardtop.

I've just bought an approved used one for slightly stronger money than that but it's only done 30k and obviously has full history and warranty. Did I pay over the odds? Probably, but I wanted a perfect low mileage one and don't trust small indy dealers. I'd have been quite happy to buy one privately though.

I love it and it's everything I hoped - a real event and feels incredibly special, always. Plus although the MC is better looking, I had to have a convertible.

For what it's worth, I think the price is fair - less £500 and yes, I'd also sell the hard top

^^^ Lovely colour, enjoy it and the wind in the hair is nice but I wished I had gone with the Coupe with my old one as the Coupes shape is spot on.

Yours looks nice and glad to see you are loving it. I saw an AUC one last Saturday and it was a great disappointment - tired and poorly specced plus the roof rattled incessantly. I think we all know to buy on condition with these cars and good ones seem hard to find.

I agree nice ones do seem hard to find and its surprising really when most are only used as weekend fun cars so you would think there would be quite a few cared for examples out there.

Hi matey,

Having owned a coupe as you know for a while then stupidly sellling it for a v8 M3 (and actually on the hunt for another) here is my 2 pence,

They are a great car, Z4M (in my opinion) is the last of the great M cars, while i prefer the coupe the roadster is not much lesser of a car, however, that one, IMO, having looked at ALOT lately, is a little overpriced for owners/miles and the wrong colour, interlagos or red would be my choice, the interlagos in this thread is stunning - looks like a proper car vs the silver/grey one.

For comparison, the coupe i am probably going to end up with is interlagos blue, with champagne leather and only 32k miles with 2 previous owners for the same money.

Coming into this time of year there are a few coming onto the market at reasonable money, i can ask about if you would like - i have been making some enquiries in the trade, whcih has brought up the one i am looking to buy, that was not advertised in the usual places, so im sure your perfect roadster is out there too. dont settle for anything less than the spec you want,

For me it was interlagos with champagne, cruise, no nav, auto wipers/lights and a few other bits, with sub 40k miles and 1-2 owners and FBMWSH - the no nav part was the hardest to find, but i think the nav in them is very dated and my iphone does a better job, plus the nav-less dash looks so good.

With regards to your post on the rattles, i have driven 2 difference Z4MR's, 1 rattled everywhere, but had been maintained to the highest degree and the other, whilst also well looked after regularly does trackdays, at is doenst make a squeak!

In short - get one bought and we can both enter some hillclimbs next season and compare notes!

Actually I was on the lookout for a silver one before I got the Interlagos in this thread as I though it flattered the car more - but Interlagos does look great in the flesh and makes it a little more special.

Likewise, I think the last of the great M cars and one of the most iconic engines of all time - which feels even rawer in the Z4M than the E46 M3.

I'd not worry too much about a thousand quid here or there - it's more a question of finding the right car. I too wanted no nav, extended leather, speakers, heated seats and for it to be an AUC.

I bought mine a month ago which was a stupid time of year as won't do many miles really until the spring, but I'm so pleased to have found a good one.

I used to want an Interlagos one but many of them look flat and a little dated in the real world. You really need to keep them hyper clean to get the best out of the colour and flatter the car. The silver ones on the other hand really highlight the details in the design and stone chips etc don't show up as easily.

Alas, as much as I liked this car and Russell spent quite a bit on it with new rear disks, pads, some touch ups on the body work and interior, I just can't get the numbers to work out for me this year. It's a shame but someone else is going to get a cracking car IMHO.

Thanks for the advice all, as always.

What are these like as an investment?

I'm looking at this one as a possible PX/swap amid my current BMW M6 woes with the supplying dealer

Seems expensive to me and not very well specced. Those light seats show their age very quickly, as you can see in the photos of the driver's seat.

As an investment in general? I wouldn't bother with cars but the sentiment seems to be that if you buy at the right price then you won't lose money on these Z4Ms. Some predict prices rising within the next 3 years and point to the Z3M Roadster as an example, which might be helping to keep Z4M prices strong.

It will certainly be cheaper to run than your M6!

Well it's not that overpriced considering it's an AUC and coupes are more expensive than roadsters. Colour and spec aren't great though.

Interlagos blue is the best colour on these cars smile

That looks lovely, congrats. Good Z4Ms are starting to hold money these days, as they get harder to find.

The other half has just bagged an XC90 meaning I don't need a practical car anymore. I've been looking at a 3.0 Z4 coupe to replace my E90 325 to get me around. I do 7k - 8k miles per year but mostly urban. So much so that I'm only really getting 22 - 23 mpg out of my current car (which I can live with) and I'm don't do much hooning these days.

Everytime I look at the Z4MC I keep trying to do man maths to justify the extra running costs. As far as servicing goes, am I right in thinking that I'd be looking at inpection 1 then 2 years later oil, 2 years later inspection 2, 2 years later, oil, repeat? I'm tempted to look around for one that's had the big service and run it for 3 or 4 years before the next one. Can I expect mid teens on the mpg figures too?

Hi, yes that's correct. So the first inspection 2 will be due at 8 years old or approx 45k miles. £800 from Elms, Cambridge. Discs and tyres are pretty reasonable too, provided you get them out of the dealer network smile

Great thanks for that. So provided I can find one (not many in my area at the minute) I need to make sure it's just had an inspection 2! I got stung on a basic service and MOT on mine using my local main dealer so yes, I think I'd be getting the wear and tear items replaced elsewhere. Just need to convince the other half that < 20mpg is reasonable biggrin

had mine for over 7 years, don't think it will ever leave my ownership, such a hard car to replace. These are only going to go up imo... buy, look after and enjoy.
