God this thread has me missing my Z4MC. I've not forgotten how taxing she was on a long journey or tough roads, but my word it was a car that with the right road and enough skill/ balls would be so utterly rewarding.

My hope is by the time I'm in a position to run a couple of cars, I can still pick one (hopefully my old one) up and save it for summer weekends.

Bought my Z4MC almost 3 years ago, I have to agree with what most people are saying here, it's an awesome car. I've had no issues at all with it and mine is squeek/rattle free with no build quality issues others have mentioned.
The gearbox can be a bit awkward 1st to 2nd but I've learned to drive around it.
The s54 is a great engine, decent low down grunt, loves revs and pulls the z4m about at a very decent pace. I've fitted a Gruppe M induction and the noise is amazing, I'd highly recommend fitting one.
I've also fitted Bilstein B12's which have addressed some of the standard set-ups flaws.
I've purchased VIBRATECH engine mounts which are going on soon and I've read these improve the gear change as well as the handling.
All in all, if your considering one, I'd get one as prices may start reaching z3m levels soon.

Out of interest, how did you find the C63? I’ve test driven a few and I can’t work out whether it’s a car who’s talents grow on you, or whether my expectations are too high. I was looking at trading the Z4M for one, but came to the conclusion that I’d regret it. Decided to keep the Z4M for summer duties instead.
I've still got mine.
Had it from 9,000 miles and it's now on 163,000 miles - albeit currently in hibernation at the moment to do some major heart surgery.
I did 25,000 miles a year in it, and despite coming from a lardy e34 M5, I never found the Z4MC overly harsh - although I did think the seats were very thin compared to the armchairs in the M5.
Only replaced the suspension at about 100,000 miles when the originals were past their best - but decided to take the opportunity to upgrade to Bilstein B16/PSS10.
Have thought about selling and getting a F-Type S or Cayman S - but the cost to change would be huge and I'd not have something significantly better...just younger.
Will be back to more of this soon...

Different proposition - I wanted something with shove and a wider operating window (read comfort). The thing you learn quickly is you can't/ shouldn't drive the C63 like the Z4MC. I take your point on inputs feeling a bit remote, although I think most cars do after the Z4MC. But to answer your question - yes it's a grower, it has a different set of tricks up its sleeve and they are extracted in different ways. Whereas a flowing set of hairpins and on/ off camber chicanes (read B-Road) is perfect for the Z4MC flicking between 2nd, 3rd and maybe 4th...the C63 requires a few more straights and more open corners. That said, I had plenty of fun with mine in the twisty stuff.
It is probably telling I went back to something similar to the Z4MC though, I missed it, but I haven't forgotten how unforgiving it was on a long drive or rubbish roads (especially with a hangover) - it makes me wonder in the latest iteration of the C63 has more dexterity and precision.
I have heard the new Supra is very very similar to the Z4MC, which probably shouldn't come as a surprise - but maybe that's worth a look alongside an F-Type perhaps.

Ended up getting an E92 M3 a few weeks ago. Plan is to see how I get on and whether it’s good enough to persuade me to part with the Z4M. Still the potential for a C63 Estate as the family car, although that might require some next level man maths to justify.
I actually don’t mind the Z4M on a long run, but I’m conscious that my passenger might not be nearly as tolerant as me.
