996 Turbo disappointment after M3. Should I go back?

After a string of great M cars and currently driving an equally brilliant Boxster the 996 turbo is a car I've always aspired to own,really fancy it's crushing all weather ability and straight line speed,nice looking machine too Interesting comments you mention on the X50 pack,sounds well worth having over the standard car?

To be fair if you were to drive both cars a week apart it may be hard to tell the difference, but drive back to back and you will notice it. Especially in the upper rev range. They pull very strongly. Hard figures are 420 vs 450 bhp.Edited by evojam on Sunday 30th November 19:21
I went from an E92 to a 997 turbo and there are a couple of things I do miss, namely the rear drive balance and the V8.
The Porsche requires a different driving style that takes a while to learn but it has the M3 licked in virtually every way. The steering, balance, brakes and general seat of the pants feel is more engaging but the V8 wail is missing. Having said that, I don't think the turbo sounds too bad and the extra speed over the M3 is very addictive.

pop down to dms automotive and drive away with 520 bhp. Certainly livens up the 996 turbo.
having said that thrashing my z3 m coupe takes some beating lol .
or dare I say get an old euros (mx5) for virtually nothing and enjoy sideways driving in the knowledge that if you break it you can just throw it away.
I had an old 944 turbo cab running 417 bhp and the mx5 was heaps more fun ie not waiting to kill me at any given opportunity

Had 3 Mk1 Mx5's,bloody brilliant little things,did loads of drifting & trackdays inc the Ring and would defo have another for sheer cheap fun in the Halfords carpark in the snow pop down to dms automotive and drive away with 520 bhp. Certainly livens up the 996 turbo.
