The difference in grip in rain (even against brand new rears last week) is frankly astonishing.

Sure when the day is dryer and warmer we know they're not as good but today the car felt really, really sure footed and on the money.

No matter how much water was on the road it just stuck to it.

What brand? The Vredestein Wintracs on our 640d are the same, despite a being officially rated as 'E' (ie not very good) in the wet. It does feel very soft/ wandery on the motorway though which I didn't notice previously so I've resorted to sport mode and manually locking it in 8th gear as with weightier steering it feels a bit better.

Thanks smile

The 20's look really good but the winter 19's don't spoil the shape and without doubt the best all round car I've ever had, fecking brilliant yes

How much did they cost (wheels & tyres), and where from if you don't mind me asking?

They are OEM and cost around £2900 list however I managed a 10% discount. Available as 19" or 20" (20's are more expensive). Complete ready to go with tyre pressure/temp monitors installed.

A lot of money no doubt but when the weather turns stty worth every penny and when the car goes I bet I'll get over 50% of my investment back wink

+1 had mine put back on last week and grip and ride quality is noticeably better, although the ride on the 20" wheels is not bad....

£2900! BMW do like a laugh, I reckon a TUV approved set of replica rims and premium winters would come in about half that online.

Looks great on the 19s though.

Ordered my super sports from here the other week. Awesome service, door to door from Germany was a couple of days. Got a local tyre fitter to pop them on. Kept the old "worn" tyres for track days for the M5 - will be buying some separate rims.

Possibly but last year wheels and tyres for the F10 M5 were very hard to come by due to the offset etc.

Ah yes, I was looking at the 550 sizes, not M5. Still, ouch! Look forward to some pictures of your M5 at the top of a snowy mountain though smile

A big ouch yes

The problem is it's my daily and up to 2013 the winters even in the south have been pretty bad and when I parted with the cash it seemed like a no-brainer.

Had fecking Indian winters since then naturally!

Winters back on mine yesterday too, really don't fancy driving in snow or ice with the DCT 'box and all the power with summer tyres.

I just have to put up with the comedy rear inset and wheel arch gap

Apparently it's specked like that so that the front and rear track is the same and the rear wheels go in the tracks made by the front.
