Went down to get my E60 M5 remapped by DMS today and I was pretty surprised at the results!

To be honest I wasn't expecting much and slightly suspicious of their claims of +40bhp as the S85 is already a highly tuned unit, but DMS operate on a no happy no fee basis so I thought why not...

I was pretty pleased to find out that my car was one of the strongest stock M5/M6's they've had, putting out 512bhp stock. Post remap it was an extremely impressive 558bhp which was one of the best results they had seen! I'm convinced this is a true power gain and not just an illusion created by making the throttle more sensitive because at full throttle the car felt like an absolute missile above 100mph. Almost managed to crash on a straight piece of road with the wheels spinning up in third gear (my new favourite gear) nuts

Here's a link to a vid of it on the rolling road and a pic of the dyno chart:

Many thanks Tony! biggrin

Can't get my head around why the graph shows peak bhp at what appears to be 8600 rpm with the re-map and perhaps 8400 before - isn't redline at 8250?

The DMS remap makes the car more driveable......and into three figures, it pulls to an incredible degree.

It makes a stunning engine even better.

An extra 46bhp on a highly strung, normally aspirated M engine through a remap only?

If you don't mind me asking, and assuming you're happy, how much did they charge for the remap?

Cheers

Well the gain comes from removing the 3rd-7th gear torque limiters. I think there might be other stuff involved as well but I don't think they'd give too much away.

An image of the before dyno run would be interesting to see.

Glad the OP is happy with the outcome. However the quoted gains on their website reek of B/S to me. Quoting 340bhp > 370bhp for a remap to a bog standard e46 m3......ok then lol

Does an e60 m5 have the torque limited in 3rd - 7th ??? ( Surely it is more likely to be limited in 1/2nd ?)

Where's your torque? Standard E60s should be around 385 ft lbs, but yours is around 350, with not much of an increase after. Do you have the graph there at home? What was the ambient temp on it?

They quote 430bhp for a ramap on an E39 M5, yet we all know they never make that much power after a remap, more like 415bhp if you're lucky (other remaps)

It's the lower graph.

Well it's limited in 1st and 2nd too, but those limiters aren't removed.

I do love doubters comments.

Having used DMS many times, they've yet to under deliver on any claim they make verbally or on their website. The E60 M5 map has been much improved since i had mine but the gain on my car wasn't far off the o/p's. IIRC i got a 34bhp gain (which was 1bhp less than they expected) but also got the top speed limiter removed. On my B7 RS4 the gain was about 25bhp & again the top speed limiter was removed.

^^^ have you had it on a different set of rollers, or just the DMS ones?

I'm keen to put mine on an independent dyno, I'm a naturally skeptical person too... now who's willing to pay me for the time and cost of doing it? smile

Their dyno looked pretty sophisticated to me, and they have some nice facilities and a good reputation so it's not like a backstreet garage making up graphs on the computer or anything...

I am afraid your right, Will at P-Torque writes the software for a lot of these cars and charges HALF the price of DMS.

Dyno figuires are just for pub talk. As long as the OP can feel the inprovement, it does not matter.

As for the figures, we all know that a dyno can over read if a car is not strapped down a certain way etc. that's how I would imagine thy inflate there results.

Seems like an incredible gain.

Their stats for my car, an Audi S6 v10, are truely incredible; 430bhp to 488bhp. But the cars don't even put out their stated power of 435bhp in the first place, in reality they are closer to 390bhp or less when coked up. MRC basically don't bother remapping them and AMD reckon you should be happy with 15bhp max.

So, clearly something amiss in this example.

Reading on m3cutters forum apparantly surrey rolling road independently ran a DMS mapped E92 m3. The quoted figures of 400 - 440 bhp were actually 408 bhp on surreys rollers. That doesnt mean DMS maps are rubbish but would indicate to me that they are selling very expensive porky pies...
