So surely the conclusion is buy a 1 year old.
I believe my sisters car holds the record for worst depreciating car- Mercedes CL !
Yes definitely if your paying cash and buying privately . If your paying franchised dealer prices and using their stupidly expensive finance then probably not. It can be almost as cheap to buy new if you get the right discount.

I lost 16.5k in 18 months and only 5k miles. It was showroom condition-sold to a trader.

Yep, if buying from a dealer and needing finance ie PCP it's much cheaper to buy new. Stupid isn't it?

I was looking at a 2 year old 640d and got a brand new one much cheaper!

Almost all new car depreciate rapidly - this is hardly news?

Not sure anyone ever believed otherwise?

Unless it's a limited production run then any BMW will depreciate.
I believe otherwise. Bought a new LCI M135i in May 15. List was £32.5k. Paid £25.5. Sold 12 months later at £23k and 9,000 miles. £200 odd pound a month.
It only works if you pay cash though, although I got BMW FS contribution just because borrowing £6k triggered that. Settled after a month.
You should add a bit of opportunity cost but at the current rates, not much, £300 maybe.
It doesn't work on all BMWs of course but that's hardly a limited production car...

Looks like some of us may have missed the boat.

Coast2coast discount has dropped to around £6k and looking at the finance options on the BMW site the deposit contribution has dropped from around £4.5k to roughly £2k.

Picked up my M4 Convertible CP yesterday. I'd got £10k off list for a factory order, but the dealer said the deals for Q4 were much thinner, with only £1k support from BMW. Maybe the depreciation will now be merely eye watering rather than biblical ☺

cool. Is the new model convertible quite rigid still, compared to the non conv?

I've only done 150 miles in it, but first impressions are it feels very rigid indeed.

I drove an M4 the other day and one point I'd say is the paddle shift it should be much better specifically the handles they are cheap plastic - my f10 535d has really nice paddles what appear to be metal backed.

Are you sure? Someone better informed than me may know for sure, but they certainly feel metal though thay have a plastic inset in the front for the +/- markings.

I drove it at Palmer (Bedford Aerodome) I found that sometimes (with gloves) that sometimes I'd get the wipers or full beam on instead of an upshift or downshift.

Lovers the drive though wink

Gloves, or chain link gauntlets?

They are the red gloves that Palmer supply at the track day event.

No chain links.

Just had a look on the site. M3 has gone to 1k.

Could it be defaulted to minimum discount until they load offers next week? I wanted to see if the 340i contribution had gone up but the car isnt listed on their finance offers page so I guess its a dealer question?

New regs in Q3 were down so I am hoping discounts will be better in Q4.

Remember BMW selling EU € built cars to £ UK has become less profitable while they hold he £ price as was. I'd say the 10% £ deflation is now being reflected in the commercials.

From chat on other forums it sounds as though there are less M3/M4 build slots, so I guess if BMW have less cars to sell they won't offer such large discounts, looks like I got mine just at the right time.

How long before the F30 is replaced? Has it not been on our roads since 2011/12 so the replacement cycle might be coming up.

Of course maybe they want to build less RHD cars due to Brexit and that they make less margin than LhD cars (currency changes so holding the price mitigates that FedEx loss)

M4 only introduced in 2014, so they will be in production to about 2018/9, then a 12-18 months gap and then the Gxx M3/4 will be released.

Do M4 owners know that Katie Price (Jordan) runs one of these as her daily?

Pic today in the press.
