Interesting info on this thread. Does anyone know what this one means? S877A
Entfall Überkreuzbedienung Delete cross-pattern operation
Cross Pattern Operation relates to the activation and deactivation of the alarm/immobiliser when using the key or remote.

I 'believe' it's this way round :

If you have Cross Pattern Operation then if you lock the car with the remote but unlock with the key, the key will deactivate the alarm.

If Cross Pattern Operation is deleted then if you lock the car with the remote and unlock with the key, the alarm will NOT be deactivated.

Thanks Richard. Have owned the car for 4 years this week and am still learning things from the experts!

Richard,

Did this vehicle CB37589 come with double glazing?

Also, did M5s come with heated wing mirrors, at all?

Michael

It came with protective glazing (which is a type of double glazing), S357A. The protective glazing units have a tendency to delaminate, it's possible they have been replaced with regular double glazing.

All E39 M5's had heated wing mirrors.

Thank you oh M5 sage.

Was there only one type of double glazing offered with M5s?

No, two types :

S352A Sound Insulating double glazing, 145 UK cars.

S357A Protection Glazing which has a layer of polycarbonate laminate in the outer glass, 34 UK cars.

You can tell them apart (if the protection glazing is not de-laminating!) by the shape of the black surround in the top rear corner of the front windows and top corners of the rear windows. Protection glazing has a rounded inner radius, double glazing has an angle.

Double Glazing

Protection Glazing (showing signs of de-lamination)

Protection Glazing should not be confused with Individual Sun Shade Glazing S761A (478 UK cars), which is tinted glass on the rear windows and rear screen. This could be ordered together with Double Glazing (44 UK cars) but I think not with Protection Glazing, at least there are no RHD cars with both.

So does the protection glazing also insulate sound? As in, is it and enhancement to the sound insulated double glazing?

Yes, in theory the protection glazing is the best. In practice the delamination problem makes it very expensive to maintain, life of the units can be as little as 3 years and they are special order and very expensive (about £500 for each piece of glass).

For S632A it means that all the electronic systems, cradle in the central arm rest and external antenna for a Motarola V50 phone are fitted, but I believe the phone itself was not included.

Richard, do you know if, armed with the option code, you can determine what model of phone would fit in the car? I think I already know the make but if I could Google for the right model I might try to pick up an old phone that will fill the awkward gap in the armrest, even if I could never make a call from it!

If you have the code it should be possible, or even just a picture of the arm rest.

Digital Signal Processing. The high end Audio option, second only to M-Audio - which is DSP with bigger sub woofers and higher quality speakers. It's OK, but nothing to shout about.

It seems to take up a lot of use-able boot space, that's for sure!

Can the phone prep armrest be switched for an armrest without the tray?

Yes, the arm rest is very easy to swap, the problem is finding a leather one.

Cheers Richard. The code is "S632A
Vorbereitung BMW Handy (Motorola)" and here is what the armrest looks like:

Judging by the space, which is pretty small, I am assuming some kind of flip phone with a stubby aerial sticking out at the top?

That will be a Motorola V50 or V60.

For it to work, you need to get the version with special BMW software, for example (no relationship will seller) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MOTOROLA-V50-Mobile-Cell...

This one? (Sorry, the light was poor in the garage)

Looks like I have the connector the wrong way up - should be able to see 'Top' on the end terminal.

Very few markings other then 'Motorola' on the outside of the phone but looks like this when flipped open:

Some ID on the inside might be useful identifying it:

Hope this helps.

Many thanks Richard. It never would have occurred to me to look for one with 'BMW software' on it. It is more to 'fill the gap' than actually use but I suppose I may as well get the correct version.

Thanks for the photos Depthhoar.
