I was recently considering one of these and it is a fantastic car. Not many built in comparison to other M cars, so people have owned/enjoyed them and are looking to cash in on the high residual values. The M2 is coming out sometime this year, so might have some impact on 1M prices I guess, although I still think in the long run the 1M will be a future classic. My hope is that the prices will drop and then I'll have one for weekend fun.
Same as the M135i the M badge is just diluted garbish these days that leads everybody that buys what Ever series BMW as long as it says Msport after its numbers into pub bragging rights, well it doesn't,sorry but that M badge has become a joke, and why would you want a false engine note in any cabin , I bet the older M technicians are pulling their hair out, all pre turbo M cars should run straight pipes
I enjoyed my alpine white 1M for just under two years and sold last July for £42,500 to a BMW main dealer! This was exactly £5k more than I had paid for it 2 years before when it was just 6 months old.
Since I sold mine I do keep an eye on the market and not many have sold for over £40k since. I might regret it one day IF the values ever creep up to £50k plus but I love the 911 GTS which replaced the 1M so I've never actually missed it.

They've come down a bit already, all under £40k now including AUC.
Had a look on A-trader and AUC prices are mostly non vat qualifying,so that is not a true reflection of prices. They are pretty much selling for the same price as they sold brand new ,4 years later but this time most are packing milleage north of 25k miles.safferboylondon said:

.
Good timing on the sale, that is probably near the top. The M2 will affect residuals imo. And by summer there will be circa £40k F8 M3's..

The 1M has dropped off the radar. Like any car its life cycle has peaks an troughs. I'd say their value will drop steadily once the M2 hits the showrooms and as above the M3/4 drops into good "used" money.
It’s probably “dropped off the radar” as there are fewer and fewer of these cars around. Some have been written off, some have been stolen and some have been exported abroad. I don’t know what will happen when the M2 comes out, but I’d expect the prices will not drop by much. Everyone said the same when the M3 came out and it simply hasn’t impacted on the prices. If anything people I’ve spoken to (including on BMW dealer) actually said that if given the keys to both, they’d choose the 1M over the new M3 to drive as a fun car.
I sold my 1M to a BMW dealer and left it parked up in their car park whilst signing the paper work. There was an M3 demo car sitting out there as well. Within about 15 minutes, there was a small group of customers hanging around the 1M looking at it and they didn’t give the M3 a second glance. Then I had a few of them come in and ask “is that a 1M?” and “wow I’ve not seen one before”. They do create a bit of a stir when people see them and I think that’s half the appeal

Quicker than e46?
Real world probably yes because of the torque. Mine was remapped and was pretty stonking (656nm torque / 430bhp), but standard they’re still pretty quick.gaz1234 said:
