Hi guys, I've just completed this mod myself, and before I welded back the muffler opening, I put back in all of the wadding that the box was packed with originally, and I have to say that I'm really happy with the result. There is no drone whatsoever, and if I'm honest, it's barely noticeable below 3K.It's only when you open the taps that it makes a difference. I only wrapped 2 out of the 4 pipes though, if one wanted a louder end result, wrapping the 4 pipes would have been better.

Finished job with wadding stuffed back in before welding!

If this fella's welding skills are top notch you shouldn't get any droning noise.
Sorry but his welding skills have little to nothing to do with whether or not there's droning. Droning is a function of acoustics, pressure pulses and heaven knows what else but not the welding.
Apologies, should have elaborated more on my post.

Yes you are correct, but surely a poor weld job would result in an inferior (sounding) product?

Not really unless the weld isn't continuous.

Which 2 out of the 4 did you wrap ?

The guy I spoke to about doing mine said it's only possible to do all 4 on the E60 M5 due to the way it's designed inside the boxes, he said there aren't 4 pipes inside as such. Surely if it's got 4 silencers there must be 4 pipes ? He said on the M3 V8s he's done yu can do 2 or 4 ppe but E60 is a different design inside the silencers.

Thanks
Simon.

Sounds good. Are you able to do the cutting/welding on top of the exhaust so it is completely hidden?
Put me in the mood now for getting mine out of hibernation for a drive...

I don't know why but I kinda have an issue with this mod. It's akin to cutting your springs to lower the car imho. Bit of a half arsed cheap mod more suited to seafront racers.

Wow, with a response like that it's just as well that what I choose to do to my car has f**k all to do with you then isn't it?

I don't get what the guy you spoke to is on about. In our cars, there's 4 independent mufflers, with a perforated pipe running through each. So you can modify each muffler in isolation. (I wrapped the inner muffler on each side by the way)

I think I misunderstood what he said as I spoke to him earlier and he said no problem to cut open 2 boxes and wrap 2 pipes.

YouTube video sounds good. Thanks for the advice .

You seem like an angry kind of person. Maybe you should take your Nova styled BM out for a drive around the local town centre with your DnB blaring to cheer you up. smile

So you must be a mature kind of person then with a remark like that.

Let's get back on topic shall we.

So this is a mod I'm actually very much considering as it keeps the look of the stock backboxes but allows the V10 to sing a little more and it's cost effective.

I'm probably going to go down the 2 pipe route as I just want a little more noise.

Ant, I think you just need to ensure Mondial are happy with the mod and that it won't cause problems with your warranty. If they're OK with it then I'd say give Paul a ring.

how can this be any different from a muffler delete? this pipe is wrapped and the filling is put back in.

nothing against having it done, just asking why or is this any different
