I'm having a nightmare with mine.

Existing insurer Direct Line are insisting on tracker.

BMW insurance won't quote.

Tesco are quoting £2k.

Best I've had so far is £760 with Aviva.

I'm 33, 13 years NCB, no claims/accidents at all, SP30 / 3 points incurred 4 years ago, and a very low crime rural postcode.

What are you guys quoting for car value? I'm not sure whether to give them the invoice price (after discount), standard list price or full list price with options. The latter seems most obvious but is greater than £75k which seems to be the cut off point at which many insist on trackers.

Actually phone direct line up and discuss it. I have had experience with them where they will remove the requirment for a tracker. The person on the other end told me that sometimes their online quotes require a tracker but it is not actually needed.

Doing so now, thanks.

The 'market value' question is a real sticking point - if I provide the price paid for the car (<£75k) I get reasonable quotes. If I provide the list price for the car (>£75k) many of the same insurers won't quote at all. That now goes for Aviva so just talking to them.

Of course we all know that 'market value' now I've put 300 miles on the clock is probably more like £40k hehe but I'd hate to find the policy invalidated because I didn't give the 'right' answer.

Also just nearly had it written off this afternoon by a 'blind' farmer pulling straight out and driving me onto the opposite side of the road.

ETA Aviva won't touch it without a tracker and garaged overnight.

Strange, I am also 33 nd have a quote of £325 with direct line. Must be your SP30 bumping up the quote. No tracker required either!

Just got it sorted with direct line.

Amazing how the outcome differs according to who answers the phone.

The guy I just spoke to confirmed that value is determined by price paid rather than list, but also made a note of both on the policy. <£75k means I'm covered with business class 1, no tracker requirement and to my surprise just received a £50 difference refunded for 4 months remaining (previous vehicle E70 40d). This would put my premium somewhere around £450.

How did you go on with the optional extras? I left Direct Line because they insisted that any factory fitted option was a modification and put the premium up accordingly, Aviva state that a mod is only something that is put on the car after 1st registration date which is more sensible.

I spoke to an operator last week who sounded as thick as mince on the phone, and insisted any 'options' were modifications beyond the manufacturer's 'standard specification' and wanted me to itemise everything on the invoice. I asked for this policy to be double checked and was rebuffed. When saying, for example, that I'd ordered factory fitted upgrades to the 'standard' specification seats, headlights or audio, the agent insisted that these were modifications and started readind from a very simple list onscreen... for example asking me to confirm whether the M Multifunction consistuted a 'heated seat, leather seat or bucket seat' modification. Cue lots of muttered FFS'ing on my part.

The guy I spoke to earlier was much more on the ball, as well as clarifying the market value issue he also stated categorically that factory fitted options are of no relevance. The car has been declared as having no deviation from 'standard' specifications.

Should have got his name and email... sorry.
