Evening, just took interest in this thread as I pick up my F80 M3 tomorrow from ELMS in Cambridge.

This cold start, has the LCI (Life Cycle Impulse) changes improved on the sound? I know the car puts the exhaust into 'efficient mode' to lower the tone and adjust back once driving now was this a case on the 2014 - early 2015 models as well or something that came with the LCI changes that arrive with the late 2015 and onwards models with the LED rear lights for example.

I had a fairly decent play on the test drives and coming off slip roads in the damp, roundabouts etc you can certainly feel the back end stepping but in honestly I thought it felt really predicable? I'll certainly need to dabble more when I've got the car to find the limits, probably jump on Snetterton day and have a play when the tracks quiet around me.

I currently own a E46 M3 and it holds a very very dear place in my heart.

I am so conflicted in what to move up to next. E9x M3, F10 M5, M4 or an F80 M3?

I have two very young kids and a wife.

It's very difficult and time consuming as I am terrified of being disappointed in the M division as I love my E46.

But it needs to go soon as I want something more modern and powerful.

EDIT: Just seen some videos of the F80 cold starting. It sounds horrible...

F80 M3 swayed me because fed of wanting a fun sort of practical car with 1 and 5 year old children.

Squeezing them into the back of a GT-R wasn't ideal, in the F80 M3 there is no issues sitting someone 6ft 1-2" behind someone else the same size for space.

I've had both Manual Coupe and SMG-II Vert E46 M3's so will be interesting to see how I feel after having the car a month or so, as it is as present fingers cross i'll do the hand over today else will be Monday for me at 5pm

Keep it.
Buy a 335i touring to sit next to it.

Having recently migrated from an early(May14) M4 to the M3CP I felt the CP adds another dimension to what was already a good all round road car. Any RWD
car with 450BHP and a fat torque curve needs some awareness of road conditions but need not be quite the handful which the press frequently write up.
What you do have is a fairly unobtrusive 3 series with space for most needs and usable performance which is more than can sensibly exploited on the road together with 30mpg. Oh and unlike the E92 V8 I ran it manages not to consume litres of oil between services.

30mpg?! The best I can get is 25mpg, pretty much however I drive the car.

What mileage are you running? My car has improved mpg as the the miles built up to around 10K now. Also the use is mostly SW England trunk roads (A30/M5)
which makes a difference. Around Birmingham M5/M6 territory even 25 mpg is optimistic.By comparison the E92 V8 never achieved 28mpg and usually 20/23.
In summary the economy is there but that is not really the point of the M 3

I'm now just over 9000 miles in a year and not seen any improvement in mpg. I do a variety of driving; B roads, A/M roads and drive into London once every 3-4 weeks, yet the economy hardly shifts from 25mpg. I'm not hugely worried as it's not exactly why I purchased the car, but it's a bit irritating that BMW gets away with quoting a combined figure of 32.1mpg, which I just don't think is achievable in the real world.

I got 32mpg in my M4 in France this September, but then the autoroutes are pretty clear and you can sit at 80ish all day...
