The techno violet one is back up for sale, now in Surrey and £3k more than it was a fortnight ago!

Glad to see it went to an enthusiast wink
Someone thinks they're clever. Getting a bit ahead of himself though, £8-9k was the right price for that, although the original advert was poor.

Owners that have got a good one and have read this thread or are generally savvy about the recent appreciation in values are likely to hold on to them. I thought I might part with mine but have decided to keep hold of it. It might at this rate be worth what I've spent on it in the not too distant future.

Nice, don't see the saloons that often! Get the crap spoiler off the back and enjoy a nice Q car! Is it wrong to presume the big end bearings would have been done with the rod bolts?
Spoiler can easily be removed & comes with the standard spoiler as well wink

Cheers. Managed to get a good one, although there were very few for sale back in November 2012 when I bought it.

Has this same car now been sold twice in the last month or so?!

Price was 8k originally, next stop 10.5k and now 18k. Amazing!

If so, I'm surprised the DVLA can even keep up...

I don't think its actually the same, but remarkably similar. Both techno violet, 60k miles, and 1 owner. But link has cloth interior & the one on PH had leather

eBay item number for a GTII. Jump on it for an investment.

Agreed, it's £16k for a car with nearly 100k miles so I don't see it rising that much in value.

Do you guys know what the car would have been worth two years ago? About £6000 to £8000. Many of these have recently sold for around this figure.

That may be the case and adds to my reasoning, I own a few so called investment cars which were bought a long time ago because they are great drives, on that premise a 100k Evo ( GT 11 or otherwise) for £16K is a car with a very limited market with prices right at the top of a surge definitely doesn't make it an investment for me.

If your buying a car as a semi-useable investment, unless it's a surefire classic in waiting then buying a car with 100k on the clock is more of a gamble, collectors like cars with low mileage, low owner number and lots and lots of history and originality.

Well if you think they are at the peak of there price then obviously do not buy. Alot of people however see thrm going for alot more in years to come. It is a gamble, in ten years time you could see that car for sale at £30,000 and thing bugger.

As for the miles thing, yes I can see that. But when only 50 have been made, you cannot be that picky.

Eitherway, it is a gamble.

I didnt say they are at their peak, I said they are at the top of a relatively very short term surge which in anyones book is a dangerous place to be as far as an investment goes.
I think the other thing to consider is that one of the greatest things about the E36 M3 is that they were cheap. They were an easy way of getting into a quick rear drive car for not a lot of money so that you could use them as intended and not worry. Ive had several of them and bought for exactly that reason, I know of many owners who also drove them in the same way and when they let go, as a few did, they were broken for spares. That may sound harsh but it made sense at the time, if your 4K evo threw a big or small end then you would have to really love the car to spend 3K+ to get the engine done or 2K to put an unknown quantity secand hand lump in it.
Now that prices seem to be rising it takes away what was so good about them for me....to spend 16K on one (whatever flavour) is just too big a price to pay for many as it puts you in some serious competition with some great cars, and if they rise further then they will be up against some very special machinery that I dont think the E36 can compete agaisnt, like I said before this makes for a very small market.

To pay 16K for an E36 and consider it an investment at this time is both risky and a shame since it wont likely get driven much, to have a 16K car that lets go and now owes 20K..ouch.

Of course I could be completely wrong about this and am fully prepared to eat my shorts in ten years time!!

I see what you are saying, but then the E30 went the same way. So did all the Cosworths. Now they all demand big money. The E30 gets smashed by Golf diesels these days but does not etract the fan base for them ( and any other car like it) yes you can buy better cars for the money these kind of cars demand now, but people do not buy them looking for the perfect car. They buy them because they love something about them. It is a gamble and I do not think I would put 15k into a GTii mainly because I do not have that kind of cash sitting around with nothing better to do. For me, the saving grace of the E36 Evo is it is still a fast car today (0-60 in 5.2 seconds) it has moved away from its chav owning days and enthusiasts are getting hold of them. All good signs to me.

anyway, agree to disagree. I hope they keep climbing

Nothing major that im aware of,I I spoke to a chap from the dealer but it just didn't sound as mint as I would have thought. Steering wheel looks like a non evo, non standard stereo, he said it needed or had paint on the rear spoiler etc.

I think the issue with these cars if if they don't sell you tend to question why they haven't but I don't know any reason why it hasn't.

It's dropped to £12k now, surprised it hasn't been snapped up and re advertised for £18k
I am the new owner of this car. I purchased back on the 7th March 2015. To clear things up the car is an early pre facelift evolution which means it has the standard steering wheel it left the factory with. Only the face lifts which are built after September 1996 came with the M sport steering wheel with the bigger air bag (there are two early evolutions on eBay at the moment, one saloon one coupe which both have the same steering wheel which you call a "non evo wheel" it's not that the wheel is non evo it's that the car is pre facelift however the M3 version of the wheel is leather unlike most similar wheels in non m models which would be made from a plastic finish, if you would like to use this as a reference, take a look at any evolution production date after September 1996 and they all have the newer looking steering wheel). This car never had a standard BMW stereo when new, this is because as part of the options list ordered on the car the option radio perperation was selected which means it came with the cabeling and speakers only, no head unit, rest assured it now has a genuine BMW cd43 sitting in the dash now. Car wasn't as mint has the person at the dealer said it was. It was a London car which lived the first 19 years of its life in central London hence why it has had some paint, it was bound to be knocked about a little. Since my ownership the car has had an extensive amount of work done to it along with a lot of time, effort and money. Including a total strip out of the interior to replace the foam heater box seal which goes on all e36's due to heat from the heater pipes Perishing the seal which lets water in through the scuttle panel. All fixed now. Lots of interior pieces re newed all with genuine BMW parts. New parcel shelf/c Piller trims as they was faded, new diff seals, alloy wheel refurb with four new tyres. New genuine shocks with reinforcement plates at the rear. New washer bottle as hoses and washer jets all genuine parts from BMW. I might as well mention every part is brought new from BMW. Fully detailed 2nd stage polish with under body detail (the underside is now yellow again due to being polished) The car now sits at 36 k miles. Booked in for an inpection I next month at BMW to maintain fbmwsh. New boot carpet, new glove box air vents to fix glove box sag. I have spent 1000's lots more done I could mention. It is stored in a heated garage and is only used as a third car on hot summers days. One that I will keep forever. Please view Minutia detailings Instagram page to see photos of extensive detailing on the car. It's not perfect but it drives just as nice as my 2013 e93. Even has original working glove box torch, first aid kit, unused spare wheel with BMW weights, original windscreen with running in instructions on it. Along with the sticker on the speedo indicating what fuel to use. Best 12k I've spent. Everything on the car works.
