I've just taken delivery (on Sunday) of mine, I think it's going to be perfect as a daily driver, I've clocked up 800 miles this week, rushing to get the running in service out of the way and it really is a beast as well as being very comfortable but poised at the same time.

It won't be a 911, but it's great at what it does.

A couple of pics from the pick up:

That looks gorgeous and the interior is lush thumbup pleased you are enjoying it...epic motor! smile

Congratulations and health to wear.

I picked up mine yesterday.

Initial impressions are that this car has real presence, a real menacing air about it. A moment sticks in the mind from yesterday - trundling along in nanny mode in 5th at 35mph - click down a couple of gears - the noise and acceleration is mind blowing - laugh out loud involuntarily. Drag race like proportions. There is more steering feel than i had expected which is brilliant, the front end is so grippy, I found turn in is so direct and accurate - and the tail is happy to swing out (I managed to fishtail out of a roundabout, greasy surface - mental note made). Undoubtedly the best double clutch gearbox i have driven (have tried porsche pdk and others) - in M1 programmed as sport shift, sport throttle and comfort steering/ride, i find it has just the right gear at the right time, it holds on to the right gear for exactly long enough. This machine is a beast. Nothing delicate or tactile, just raw hp and sledgehammer pace with a huge dollop of menace and presencesmile

For now, settings are
M1 - sport shift, sport throttle, comfort ride and steering
M2 - sport plus shift, sport throtte, comfort ride, sport steering.

Very limited time with it but i found sport plus steering very heavy. The comfort ride seems ideally suited to almost any mood.

Spec is

20" wheels
Power bootlid
Comfort access
BMW loudspeaker professional
Soft close doors
M multi f seats
Internet
BMW apps
Reverse camera assist
sun protection glass
split folding seats
ski bag
12 v
Speed limit display
Lumbar
High beam assist

Will post more when i have played with it more.

Cheers

Ajit.

Congrats OP.

I picked mine up yesterday too... and had that same 'laugh out loud' realisation of the cars potential despite being in the initial stage of running in, on brand new tyres and with standing water all over the road. Even when driven like a fairy, the car is immensely amusing. I can only imagine that when properly run in, like yours, its something else altogether.

Congrats guys ... Good times ahead.

Im putting fresh rubber on mine next week and i bet the whole experience will move up a notch.

Also good to see the M5 is still king of the hill in this months big super saloon shootout in evo. Beat the panny GTS and the RS7 amongst others.

It is a valid concern. Couple crap economy with a fuel tank that's too small and your range is hit (e60).
Agreed: it is a valid concern, from the perspective of inconvenience - the range of the e60 was crap and having to fill it up every few days was a hassle.
The f10 has much, much better mpg, which (when combined with the larger tank than the e60) means bigger intervals between fill-ups.

Not only does the F10M have a larger tank than E60 M5, it has a fuel tank with a 10 litre greater capacity than all other F10 variants, combined with generally better consumption in like for like use than the V10 gives a much more practical tank range of 350-400 miles, rather than nearer half that.

Still a few years before I'll be picking one up and I expect I'll probably skip the V10 in the middle (love the engine, hate the transmission and not so much a fan of the looks), weekend car/daily driver depends entirely on distance between work and home - currently at 100 miles/day x6 days/week, but I may move my work to a more typical 10-20 miles/20-45 minutes away which would see the E39 pressed into daily use.

Mine is definitely a car I'd love to use daily and that was the whole point when I decided to order one... only problem is that (as a contractor) my business movements can change overnight and since taking the plunge, and subsequently collecting the car barely a week ago, I've been offered a contract which will see my anticipated mileage go from circa 300/week to >1000/week. If I were doing up to about 80-100 miles a day I'd use the M5 all the time, but 200 miles a day is pushing it too far.

Question now is what do I do... I can't face a snotter for 3-4 days a week knowing I have an M5 sat on the drive. I'm inclined to scoop a late E65 730d for <£10k and run it into the ground. That or a 520d/535d lease and just pay the mileage charge at the end. The M can be reserved for Fridays/weekends or when I'm generally bored.

Its interesting, I can't justify an M5 due to very low mileage, you don't want to use one for high mileage. It seems there's a balance somewhere in the middle that is about right.... I have a family car for weekends so my weekend use would be minimal. That said, if the same lease deals that were around previously on these came up it would be the lowest mileage M5 ever to sit at a station all day smile

I think you're absolutely right about there being a balance... I wouldn't buy one for very low mileage either, but by the same token the thought of running one into the ground in a short space of time fills me with horror, especially when the £300/week fuel spend alone would more than lease/buy and run something a little more appropriate.

My sweet spot would probably be about 20k per annum - I couldn't think of a better car to be in, but at the same time it wouldn't be enough for me to start resenting the running costs.

Daily driver for me, 12k miles per year.

I looked at the journey computer for today, just under 4 hours in the car incl school runs and clients etc. Great place to spend the time.

I'm not sure how the previous owner did it but the journey data showed an average of 22mpg over the last 6000 miles!

On a separate note, 2 of my alloys show slight signs of a whitening appearing, is this corrosion of the wheels? I am taking it back to the dealer tomorrow to show him. I wonder if its the paint depth on the alloys. Its an auc car, im assuming they will put it right?

Guys, sadly my M5 was stolen straight off my driveway on monday morning early hours. Missing it already. Watch out for prying eyes and where you put your keys, I gather these things are targeted a lot. If anyone wants an unused set of tyres, an LCI front grill or rear M performance carbon splitter then drop me a line.
