Interesting. My lease expires in October and I really can't think of anything I want to replace it with. There are deals on E63 AMGs, RS4 Avants and Maseratis but the M5 is still the better car.

My problem is I've overdone the miles by approx 2k per year so will already be taking a hit in October. You also need to weigh up the cost of servicing, tyres, brakes, etc. It may make better financial sense (or man maths!) to hand it back and get a new one. In a more exciting colour!

Maybe wait and see what the 2nd quarter lease deals are like in a few weeks....
Interesting....what RS4 deals are these...is there another thread on it?

I doubt they would even notice, but the tyres will be road legal and suitable for the car so I can't see an issue really.

I would expect when the car is inspected for condition/damage at the end of the lease they will spot the winter tyres. I will have to email BMW finance and ask them about acceptable tyres upon return.

Well that's up to you, does your lease specifically exclude the use of winter tyres? Does it state the brand and type of tyre can use? None of my 5 BMW finance agreements have.

All you are required to do is fit road legal tyres that are of the correct size and load index.

And it will most likely be someone from BCA that picks it up they will check for tyre depth and visible damage but nothing else, it will be on the auction block the next week.

If you part ex the car the dealer would probably try and chip you on the figures if they spotted them, but that wouldn't be contractual.

I'm put off by all the negative reviews in the motoring press. Ironically it's probably these poor reviews that mean Audi have to resort to deals like this to shift them.

Thats a good post thanks. I am new to leasing so not sure how the handback normally goes. I might get away with winters from what you describe. The winters will certainly have more than legal tread depth on return.

Just check your agreement I'm sure you'll find no restriction.

If so then you have to do nothing.

I looked at an RS6 before getting the M5, but they were too much for me to justify, great cars though if you get one.

Audi are now finally subsidising the C7 RS6 with a £6k deposit contribution & about £8-9k available by negotiation so discounts of 15% which is about the same as the F10 M5. This is of course on a base spec car but like the M5 they come well kitted as standard.

They've also been loading the GFV over the last few weeks so deals on CH & PCP are also available.

That's not good particularly as that's probably based on low mileage and three years. I pay £888 inc VAT for my M5 for 20K miles a year and 2 year lease.

What is the benefits of leasing a new M5 vs buying one 6-12 months old?
If I was to buy say a 64 plate or a 14 plate and I do say 10k a year how much depreciation can I expect? Would it be more cost effective buying it outright or leasing?

A new one comes with 0% finance so you'd be better with the cash in the bank when buying a new one.

Obviously a second hand one for 45k vs. 65k new (discounted) would be the cheapest solution if paying cash.

If it's either on finance then that gets a little more complex as the best rate you'd get used is probably around 6% with a broker vs. 0% with a new one through BMWFS, the SH finance terms from BMWFS are a joke at 10% APR.

It would all depend on the whether you wanted to buy the car outright on finance or just run it for the term.

When I looked last month it was around £1000-£1100 per month inc VAT for an RS6, M5 still quite a bit cheaper.

well the deal I had was £559 per month inc VAT with 20" wheels and 10,000 miles per year. i decided to put £6000 down to reduce payments. Over the term it will cost me £18857.00 (crikey)

however after 2 years a base spec like mine (only 20" wheels as options) in monte carlo blue with sakhir interior(which I love but a dealer probably won`t) will probably be worth about £35,000 trade.(maybe less when the markets flooded with more desirable ones.). i really wouldn`t like to try and shift it on. So with a list of £73,000, it`s a £38,000 loss. However BMW invoiced BMW finance for £59,000 for the car (i have a copy), so in reality a £24,000 loss off price paid. Which ain`t my problem

A lot of things to consider, after added all the decent toys it comes to around 65-70k. I've sent some really decent 14-64 plate ones going for around 50k. I would only keep it for a year or so and move on to be honest. I will look at all the options towards the end of the summer when I'm ready to buy.

I'll just leave this (RS7 vs M5 vs XFR-s vs E63 AMG - Mercedes wins) here. http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-reviews/compariso...

The E63 is very nice, it's just a shame that - even in 'S' form - they're so slow: https://youtu.be/6uHcjIh3aR0?t=31s

Ah gotcha. Funny though - in the link I provided the E63 S AMG was still rated better than the M5 Comp. pack. smile

Not really sure you can compare a saloon to a shooting brake..but I'll raise you this: Saloon vs saloon

E63 vs M5 0-300 kmh. AMG wins by 4.4 seconds.

Thing is the e63 is old fashioned and plastic inside with poor in car tech and has the same body as an e220 no flares on the arches and looks very plain to me.

Nice engine though.
