..seem to be strengthening of late for clean factory spec examples, anybody got a view as to whether the trend is set to continue or whether I'm guilty of wishful thinking?

Prices certainly higher than 2 years ago fir low mileage clean examples.

However most performance cars haven't depreciated in the past 2 - 3 years

The older models tend to strengthen in value before the newer models.

The E30 M3 hype began back in 2011/2012 when the E9x M3 was still and production and demand hasn't tailed off yet.

The E36 won't be as strong in terms of demand as it was built in much higher numbers but good, clean, unmolested examples will firm up and rise in value.

The E46 M3 - again for CLEAN and MINT examples - will firm up and rise but probably not yet. It's not in 'classic' territory yet whereas the E36, being almost 20 years old now, most certainly is nearing that stage.

Well I've put my money where my mouth is and bought a low mileage mint manual FBMWSH slice of chav heaven. I'm guessing that it'll double in value over the next 10 years which should justify the lavish care and maintenance programme I intend to cosset it with. It will remain totally factory spec and pampered beyond reason biggrin

Best way. Keep it original as possible.

I do like that colour. I was wanting a Mystic Blue one but not very common, but I did see some around.

Ended up with Carbon Black and red leather for the full on chav/drug dealer look. I am loving ownership so far.

Very rare only seen 2/3 for sale in year and half I have had it ! Helps add to the value too! I was going to sell it last year and must have had 20 calls in 3 days

Do people feel that the Manual is worth more even though originally was less to buy ? I think the SMG carries that worry factor of it going wrong and most people buying a 7-10k dont want that potential bill ??

I ruled out SMG as it feels very old tech now and not in a good way, the potential to have a costly problem made it even more of a no brainer to go for the manual.

Looking around it seems to me that prices are all over the place which seems to me indicative of prices having turned upwards. Looking at the mega money being asked by the likes of 4star classics for clean examples also adds weight to my zero depreciation man maths smile

I think the values are very strong on the Under 60k ones - much fewer of these knocking around ...

Certainly glad I bought a manual, was never a fan of the SMG smile

I went manual (personal choice rather than issues related) and felt there was a £1k premium for it when comparing prices.

My man maths is working on the basis that the manual hardtop was the sweet spot and will command the highest premium in years to come. The reason being it is one of the last proper drivers cars out there before flappy paddles became all the rage. Even Chris Harris agrees so it helped me justify it to the wife :-)
The values do seem to be holding up very well which is encouraging.
