Greetings M3 E46 owners.
This topic has been raised before but can't find anything recent. Would be great to hear which tyres you think are best and/or best value. I've owned my M3 since 2005 and always ran 19" Continental M3 Conti Sport Contact's. Need to buy 2x new rears (255/35 R19 Z) and thinking after 9 years it might be time to consider something else!!
Thanks and look forward to hearing what you have to say.

I've done about 9/10k miles on them in my M5 and they are hard to fault. On a hot day it's like there's glue in the compound.

In that distance the rears are down to just over 4mm and the fronts around 6mm. Not bad considering the output.

They're the replacement for the Pilot Sport 2, standard fit on a lot of performance cars including current M cars and M135i etc.

Think about the wear rate of the tyres, and not jus the initial cost.

I went for MPSS as I don't skimp on tyres, but also as the reports are very good for wear, so the actual cost of the tyre will probably be very close to that of an inferior tyre.

I paid about £620 delivered for a full set of MPSS for my Z4m from Oponeo in November 2014.

Contis are just way too soft for the M3, I was going through a set of rears every 8 months or so. Since moving to Michelins, the grip is similar but they don't wear down so quickly and I'd expect to get a year or more out of them.

Thanks for all the input. The Conti's I have on the front still have plenty of wear - any views on mixing brands on front -v- rear? I.E. ok to put MPSS's on the rear with Conti's on the front?

It's fine driving at 110%...

Running different tyres front to rear is the easiest way to change the balance.

What tyre seems most progressive at the limit? Any opinions?

Need to replace all mine fairly soon..

I find the Bridgestone S001 one of the best the limit, though you could argue that's because the limit of grip is lower.

I really loved them on my e46, suited the car so well.

Looks like I started quite a debate! The Hankooks came up overall best in the 2015 Auto Bild Performance Tyre Test (thanks Jon) - anyone tried them?

Most people are raving about MPSS, including lots of Porsche owners, I've got P Zeros on the rear of mine but the previous owner put Kuhmos on the front. When they get down to 2 mm, I'll be going down the MPSS route...

Quite reasonable prices if you're prepared to shop around - full set of 225/40/19 & 255/35/19 for £615 or 235/35/19 & 265/30/19 for £599 from Tyreleader. smile
