Whilst they are without doubt similar, the car has a slightly more aggressive stance.

Still, if someone doesn't now what I'm driving and try it on, they'll soon see the tailpipes as I whizz by biggrin

Much like the tt who flashed me on the M40 yesterday in his Q5 - I couldn't get out of his way, there was a queue of cars on my left you fecking idiot. Once I did pull over he was slightly embarrassed when he couldn't get past me hehe
Hahaha, that is the spirit! I love putting chumps in their place when they try it on.

was surprised to find out that new 6 series Grand Coupe prices are the same as new 6 series Coupe prices

I agree but I just find it easier to spot the e39 as, despite the bodywork looking identical to a sport, the wheel design and mirrors are an easy give-away at a glance from any angle.
Indeed but the wing mirrors are also different on the F10 M5:

Yes but it was more that they're not as obvious a contrast compared with the older cars.

Yep, and then once he realised he couldn't get past me I put my foot down and got back in front again hehe

Of course, I then had to slow down 5 or so MPH to the legal limit and irritate him for a while laugh

Isn't the whole point of the M5 to be stealthy it has been on its incarnation and within reason to those not in the know it could be a 516/8d M sport or actually people who don't really know much about cars might just consider it to be a large family car.

Then bang those 560++ bhp can be released or the owner can happily poodle along.

I think on the whole it is yes

However there's enough to make those who know aware that they are dealing with a monster biggrin

Enjoy it

23.x mpg as you got isn't far from my old Fiat coupe 20 VTurbo 28mpg for 220bhp you have a very conservative 560bhp 0-62mph in at least 2 seconds quicker and by the time it got to 100mph 14.2 seconds you'd be smashing through 150mph.

Then again IF I could buy a 275GTB4 cam for the price of a brand new F10 M5 I can assure you I wouldn't even be aware the M5 existed ..... Sadly that's not the case

Honestly Welshbeef, I've never had a car I like so much, three Porkers amongst other pretty nice metal but nothing compares to the M5.

I'm off to Le Mans and then in the summer right down into Italy and I can't wait - the second trip will be 3000 miles of driving nervana as far as I'm concerned.

However, the 640D et al are also bloodyt great cars to the point where if the 550D were available in RHD I would seriously consider one come change time yes

I love the M5.

But based on the OPs thoughts of M6 vs 640d, why not meet in the middle and go for the 650i? The mpg looks half respectable and at least it is still a v8 rather than a boring diesel!

My everyday car is a 640d M-Sport. My other car is a proper track beast. On this basis, and for my use, it is a 640d. Effortless, quiet, long range motorway driving and with the adaptive suspension on Sport+ (a must) the occasional Spa and 'Ring trackday in the rain make it a surprisingly polyvalent car. In my view the 6 series is just too big and heavy and crashy to have any fun on open roads.

Horses for courses and this 6 series is a big heavy one

Will you remap it/Hartage it for 360-380bhp on the road

In my view the engine does not need any re-mapping. I remapped my former 635D and it was a definite bonus. However, with its 8-speed gearbox and the sport+ setting (at least on the version with adaptive suspension which I repeat is a must) the throttle response of the 640d is definitely sharp enough for the road and the odd track day (on a wet track that is, because on a dry track the car is just way too big and heavy). The 8-speed of the 640d always keeps the engine in its meaty torque range and you can rev it hard, if you wish.

Did you consider this option? Buy a 640d 2nd hand and with the change over an M6 (and the foreseen depreciation of the latter, plus differential costs of fuel, plus the permanent realisation that big cars remain big, with an M badge or not this still has the footprint of a 7 series!), finance a nice sharp toy for the track. With the cash in question you would have a lot of choice and not drive a compromise.

I could afford an M6 but to be frank the thought never occurred to me. Even the recent 911s are a bit dull and heavy--and that includes GT3s that I test drove on the track and were hopelessly crashy and noisy on the road, there are not many ways to control all that mass! However, the adaptive suspension on the 6 series transform it from a 7 series (in comfort +) to a reasonably fun car for the size (in Sport +).

BTW, if you buy a 6 series, try to get one that is well equipped. Many of the lease cars were not. I would get the Hud, a panoramic sunroof, a decent stereo (I have the Karman) and adaptive suspensions. I also have the automatic parking but it does not work well.

I went C63 to 640d so I think I've got a few comments that might help.

My change was due to some increased mileage up from 8-10k per annum to 20-30k for the next 18-24 months. Also the deals to be had on the 640d were amazing and I was very disappointed with my test drive of the new M3.

Okay so the good... the interior is amazing, the car looks fantastic and it has a very achievable 45-50mpg although my average is 35mpg with occasional motorway, mainly country roads. I've chipped my car so likely 370-380bhp, which is really felt low down the rev range and gives a great kick. I really surprised a Boxster S the other day which was fun.

I really love being in the car and it's a relaxing drive and a great place to be... but it's no C63.

There is no steering feel, it wallows in a little in corners and the engine although epic for a diesel is lacking. I'm happy with the compromise at the moment but I will be going back to a V8.

That said the V8 for me certainly wouldn't be an M6. The M6 is an epic car and my favourite BMW to look at, but the car is just too big to be thrown around B roads and too powerful to use most days.

For me the new C63 or the next model RS4. The C63 as I LOVED my last one and the RS4 for it's all round usability.

I also think the deals to be had on the M5 would also mean that would be the sensible choice for me versus the M6 too.

Also note that the rear seats in the 6 series coupe are virtually unusable and for small children only. I've got a 3 year old and it's still tight!

Feel free to PM me within any questions re. C63 to 640d.

Did you use a tunit box or Hartage\Birds for the bhp increase?

Assuming it's a 4.5 second car to 62 mph now so very few cars are quicker and Walmart sub 11 (10-10.5seconds) to 100mph & potentially 45-50mpg to boot. Compelling

I used RaceChip after 2-3 months of research mainly on US forums where they are quite widely used now.

Very happy with it so far and yes excellent performance to economy.

Just checked them out €479 for the ultimate remap.

Oddly the 300 Bhp 535d gets to 367bhp whereas the newer 313bhp only gets to 360bhp (I have the 300bhp 535d smile. )

I have the M6 GC CP, and TBH can not use the power here at all, it's so quick.
I am looking at a 3 series XDrive 335D M Sport fully loaded , and mapped.
I have asked for the "Long Beach Blue" colour which is the new X6M colour.
Will fit the AC Schnitzer springs all round to lower it.
I have been offered this car fully loaded +£14K for mine, what do you guys think?.
I think a rip-off.

You'll miss it going to a 335D M Sport yes
