Blimey, reading these posts someone's going to suggest nuking the dealership next!
We need time to get into orbit first.
I'm sure a slightly modified 335d will be along soon.

I'm wondering if they have a lawn outside the dealership?

Maybe we need to hammer some frozen sausages into said lawn.

Have there been any updates on this?

I trust you're insisting on a replacement bonnet?

The more I think about it, the more absurd and quite frankly insulting the suggestion of filler becomes.

Just read this.

I'd be pushing for a new bonnet and would expect them to agree to that very easily. I'd also be concerned that the paint match still won't be high enough.

What colour is the car? Some of the colours are very hard to match.

The other issue is that more people are getting more educated about detecting paint damage. There is now more people turning up with paint thickness gauges when buying cars.

For proof I'd be taking photos to show the previous damage wasn't a crash in case it was noticed in the future.

That's actually a bloody good point.

Mistakes happen. Get a new bonnet, a free bit of merchandise and move on.

Sacrificing the Service Managers first born is not necessary...

They must hold some sort of indemnity policy against this sort of event?

New bonnet 100%.

Cheeky bds.
When you trade the car a bmw dealer will lower their offer if they spot damage repair

Even fitting a brand new bonnet, free service and equivalent hire car would be unacceptable.

Even with replacement parts you still have a car that's had a resprayed bonnet and this will have to be blended into the wings and bumper, if you were to sell the car immediately after the repair that would diminish it's value. Someone looking at the car could think it's had a front end collision, if I was looking and saw such evidence I'd be very sceptical. They will of course say that it will be repaired to BMW standards blah blah, but in my experience BMW standards of repair are OK at best, there will be signs that it's been repaired.

My starting point, although probably extreme in many peoples eyes, would be to require a replacement, plus provide an equivalent until the replacement is provided. Anything less and you'll probably be out of pocket which is not right. You should be restored to the position you were in before the damage occurred, and the only way to full achieve that with a very nearly new car is to replace the vehicle.
Not sure if serious......

A replacement bonnet and a free service would a fair result.

Just be frank, ask for what you want not something outrageous.

Hi all,

So the update is that it was due out of the bodyshop today and the Service Manager was going to e-mail me to say that he was satisfied with the result (he didn't) and I'm having the car delivered back on Friday am, with it having gone through a "showroom valet". He's confirmed that there will be no charge for the service, so I'll just have to wait and see what they've done with the bonnet .... but BMW Customer services have assigned me an advisor and she's closely monitoring the situation!

I'll let you know when I know more (or get it back), oh and I did take a few pics of the damage just in case they become necessary .... smile

Really, I just want my car back!

A 'Showroom Valet'?

Is that the type where your car is taken to the rear of the dealer and washed badly by cheap labour before being dried using a rubber mop introducing your car to tiny bits of grit and dirt with a squirt of cheap car freshener thrown in for good measure?

Or is it the dealer employing the likes of KDS detailers for a day....

Now let me think about this for a second :scratchchin

I won't let my local (in fairness good dealer) anywhere near my M5 to clean it, let alone after the st you've been put through nono

With regards to "paint matching", I got my new M6GC CP stone chipped from a lorry discharging 3/4" shingle all over the road, to match the paint (Alpine White) it cost £6K+ , so I hope your dealership knows how to paint.
Listers Kings Lynn did mine and did a great job.

Agreed, AW does not cost £6k to match - its a standard (and very popular) colour. I presume the other party's insurance was paying and the dealer felt they could take the piss.

This is one of the reasons insurance premiums continue to increase!

I'm wondering how the gate managed to mark the bonnet and no other panels. Unless the car was parked on a hill, or it was the top half of a split gate. PITA regardless. frown
