189 with the right boxed ticked .. can you do that?

would have though it capable of slightly more than 189.

In Germany (and perhaps some other countries) you can specify an increased top speed. I recall in the back of my E90 M3 owners hand book they quoted two 'top speeds' - the higher one being 175-180mph.

I've never seen it in my M5 handbook and I am pretty certain that BMW UK don't offer it. However, you can get the increased limit retro-fitted to a UK car by a German dealer (Palmball had it done to his M6 and posted details of the process).

The M Drivers pack raises the limit from 155 to 189, the car is capable of much more. Some tuners can remove the limit on the engine but I believe there is another on the gearbox, so the car is still limited to about 205. In theory the stock car with no limit should be good for over 210, possibly over 215.

I wonder what the sticker tyres are as they already come with PSS? 600hp is tasty number pity they don't offer that as a PPK through the dealers as it appears to be just a software flash.

I'm taking my M5 to Berlin in a few weeks time so might be interested in the process for having the limit raised. If its thousands of pounds I don't think I'd bother unless there is some other improvement made to the car.

I don't think it's that expensive, but unless you go to Germany on a regular basis, is it really worth it?.

I heard it was circa 2000 euros - if this is the case then I'd expect it to include some other upgrade for example coding the CP ECU settings for 575bhp. If it costs that much and is just literally the limiter raised then I agree it wouldn't be worth it. On the other hand if it can be done legitimately for a few hundred quid then I'd probably do it, if only for the 1000 autobahn miles I'll be doing next month.

The M drivers pack also includes a track day driving one of their cars, that's probably a significant proportion of the cost.

Not on an M5, but when I purchased my Z4M I specced the M Driver's Package.
It cost from memory around 2000€ in early 2007, but it included two things: removal of the speed limiter (ran out of space at 178 mph) and a one and a half day training day at the Nurburgring. The cost included the hotel accommodation and meals plus tuition. There is the option to use a vehicle similar to your one or with your own car if you wish so. We grouped in the afternoon, had a brief theoretical session plus health and safety briefing and ad an hour or so of the "normal" exercises like obstacle avoiding, emergency braking and similar. Dinner at the hotel, then the following day was spent lapping the ring under instructor's supervision to improve the use of racing lines, braking points etc...

All in all expensive but a good experience, with the added bonus of the raised limit!

Is that 100% John? I actually asked a dealer to check this out earlier for me before I spotted your post.

BMW UK had to refund me £1700:00

The gearbox limit is 199mph (GPS speed) i'm told so unless lucky, even with the delimit the car won't exceed 200mph. I of course plan to test this theory on the continent later in the year.

I thought it was 330kph (205.05mph), maybe it's 'only' 320kph (198.84mph). Who are you using for the delimit?

It is expected the M-DCT restriction will be cracked at some point, but the encryption is extremely strong. In fact the regular ECU encryption was increased on MY14 (LCi) cars.

Have heard good reports, but i'd steer clear of a piggy back tune on such a car. As far as i'm concerned the car demands a Custom tune as the base power/torque varies greatly on these cars. I think tuning boxes have their place on cars such as your 320d's etc.

Seems odd you would even consider it given a few weeks ago you said the M6 was too fast and you may get rid for a 335 Msport?
