Got my car back from its visit to the dealer to cure vibration through the steering which i was getting from 50mph to 40mph. Only at those speeds. V odd. They've cured it, at considerable cost - new alloys, new wishbones, wheel bearings, control arms and bushes, geometry and general software update.

Every time i start the car i find that the hud has reset itself to the standard display. I prefer the M drive display (where the revs and gear and speed are displayed). The car used to remember my selection and always displayed that when i started the car. Now, if i drive around with M view, turn the car off and go back to it later to start it, the hud has reverted back to standard display. Driving me nuts resetting it each time. Do i need to do something to get it to remember how i like it?

cheers

As I understand it when you start the car it defaults to relaxed mode and the HUD shows speed/phone/sat nav etc.

It's only when you hit the M1 or M2 button you see the rev counter (but no phone or nav frown )

Obviously I stand to be corrected.

That makes sense but mine used to remember the mode it was in when the car was last used. Now it doesnt remember it and goes back to default. Maybe the software update eradicated this anomaly which i quite liked and thought was normal.

Same setup on my 2013 M6, defaults back to sensible mode at every switch off/on. Not sure why yours used to hold the M setting? TBH I would not want mine to do that as mines a little extreme in anything but sissy mode!! wobble

Is yours an older F10? Perhaps the original software rememebered and the new software update has 'updated' that for you.

Also, I presume your new part list there was covered by warranty? If not then I suspect half of that wasn't needed.

Yes its a July 12 car. Don't like the updated software!

All the work was under warranty. forgot to add new front discs and pads too - three times as the first two times didn't solve it.

The HUD on my e60 could be setup in drive preferences to start in M display or standard mode by default. Presume there will be a similar setting on the new car.

Nope, HUD and M settings default to soft mode when the car first starts.

You've then got to hit M1 or M2 to get into a saved M setting which changes the HUD.

YEP stick the settings on an "M" button, job done. Just press and go.

Could be the sort of setting that can be coded. If someone has previously had some non standard options coded, updating the software will have re-set them to the standard settings.

Bloody hell did they actually pinpoint what the vibration was down to or just rebuild half your car?

I think that's right. They were largely clueless. It wasn't my place to say but i told them the second time they replaced the brake pads and discs that i didnt think it was these at fault. They were being directed by their techincal guys in Germany i'm told.

All told they changed the pads and discs three times. They changed the fan belt (??). Then got on to the suspension bits. I suspect it was electrical because it only happened on braking from 50 to 40; at higher speeds or lower speeds all was fine. Only done 16k miles.

I got to try a variey of loan cars in the 3 weeks they took in all. I don't mind the front end has a stack of new parts and a new set of alloys to boot.

My service adviser told me that the work would have cost £11500 retail. !

Mine's an MY14/15 & has always defaulted the M settings which is where the M HUD is set. As many have said, just programme M HUD to one of the M buttons & hey presto.

Muts have been a software thing on earlier cars as i can't see how to change the M HUD display in anything other than the M button setup.
