Mine was showing dye transfer from jeans within 1000 miles... I had it cleaned up properly and protected with Gtechniq products at circa 2k miles and now on 5 with no marks visible (though I am trying to avoid wearing jeans when driving).

The merino leather in the M5 is soft and much more susceptible to marking... I don't have a problem with my kids because they are well trained and never eat or drink in the car... but if you are concerned I'd avoid and go for something darker.

If you're going to put a dog in the car (!) I'd be putting something on top the leather regardless of the colour as due to the softness it will get scratched to pieces in no time.

Mine is Sakhir orange and have three young kids. Still looks like new in there, but I do get it valeted every week.

I also have Sakhir & the drivers seat has a fair amount of dye transfer after 13k miles, but it's to be expected with pretty much any car that has non black leather. I don't think i've driven my car wearing anything other than jeans. Can't see it when i'm sat on the seat so not bothered about getting it addressed as it will only return. Previous F10 M5 had Silverstone & that was plain silly the level of dye transfer, hence the replacement i went darker.

Thats the reason I have gone for black, it just looks clean all the time, would of liked the lighter leather but its a pain to keep clean .

I've had lots of kids and dogs in the previous m5 with silverstone and never really a problem - as mentioned just put a cover a down to protect from claws. It's easy enough to get valeted if it gets mucky.

I'm getting silvestone again as it makes the interior a much brighter and airier place to be.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I quite like the idea of Sakhir Orange with black exterior but this is not a widely held view in the family....

40K in mine all with jeans on. However I have noticed that the drivers bolster is wearing quite badly, probably due to the jeans material. However no dirt marks, however I do get the interior done every week.

Ditto, BMW make a custom heavy duty cover to fully line the rear cabin (attached via front and back headrests with separate door card covers) Many a time I had a pair of wet and dirty collies in mine, just used to let the dirt dry then brush it off. IIRC its around £250 for the cover, try BMW's shop on Amazon or eBay, might be cheaper than the dealer prices.

You'd be amazed at just how much of the standard extended nappa interior is actually leatherette.
