I think its a good idea however it should have a button to switch the thing off. Or a setting in the Idrive menu.

Slightly ironic name given the feature being discussed. wink

They didn't offer an explanation. I called up just to get an update and was told a build date was now assigned. I get the impression they wouldn't have told me if I hadn't called up! Still a 6 month wait though - I'm also looking at alternatives, just because.
Similar thing happened to me. I placed an order last October and then at the start of the year was told I wouldn't get one until 2017 as they were only getting 3 allocated for 2016. This is when I rang round and managed to score a demonstrator car on its arrival in April as they didn't want to run it as a demonstrator, providing I was happy with the spec so very lucky there. A friend wants the second car so I popped into the other dealership for an update after I collected the pre-spec'd car, but the salesman I was dealing with wasn't there and their story hadn't changed. Strangely enough, I then had a call when the salesman was back in telling me my car would be coming in November this year as they have had extra allocation for 2016 and had just found out, and whether I wanted to cancel so they can give that slot to someone else. Bit of a weird coincidence so I am not sure if they just forgot to tell me, and/or really want me to cancel so they can make someone else's day.

So i'm due to take delivery of my M2 in a couple of weeks... was thinking about some kind of protection like a Xpel wrap or Kenolon ceramic coating..

What are others planning to do?

My M6 is wrapped with Xpel Ultimate. If you don;t want stone chips that I'd highly recommend it. After over 35,000 miles I don't have any, just one or two minor marks in the film.

Thanks for the advice Richard, out of interest and if you don't mind how much did it cost to apply?

Well, remember the M6 GC is a big car and it's fully wrapped, even the roof, B pillars and lights, it was also the first one they had done so they had to create the templates. £5,550.

Edit: I also paid a bit more to have them do the rear quarter, C pillar, roof above the door and A pillar in a single piece.

A friend got his Porsche GT4 clear wrapped (very good job, can't see unless you're looking) and it cost him £1,200 but that was after a bit of haggling, just to give you a ballpark for a smaller car than the GC

Went that route with my E39 M5, it's not! And you have to live with stone chips between resprays.

Collected on Monday... Very pleased, everything i expected and more (and i owned an M135i for the last 3 years)

Seriously considering having the car treated with Gtechniq serum light, has anyone else had this treatment as I've heard some pretty good things about it?

Nice car! I had my F80 M3 treated with Gtechniq Crystal Serum in October of last year when it was brand new...

Tanzanite Blue isn't the easiest colour to keep clean, but the Crystal Serum helps considerably - dirt and other contaniments certainly don't stick as readily and a touchless wash with a pressure washer gets the car 90% clean in about 5 minutes, which is nice. The colour really sparkles when it's clean and the Crystal Serum makes the paint surface almost glass like and very shiny.
