Saw my first M2 in the flesh so to speak, today. Passed by Fairfields in Southend and saw their demo car parked outside, so did an about turn and went back to have a closer look.

It's a LLB DCT car with performance exhaust fitted, and oh my.......looks lovely cloud9

Why?

I had a 2 hour test drive and loved it. The only near moment I had was braking hard on a duff surface when I felt like it wanted to rotate. Otherwise I much more impressed with the M2 than I was the M4 (although I'd be interested in the comp pack).
Drove better than my E90 M3 (handling wise, that V8 was a peach), and had the M car edge that my 135i lacked. I felt it was a truly great car. Hence my order.

I'd never buy without a test drive first - havent got enough money to risk not liking it!

Which dealership did you arrange the test drive through? I can't find anyone who has one - they've all sold their demo cars!

Don't know where you are located, but I was in Fairfield BMW in Southend last weekend, and they had a M2 demonstrator available.

It was Wollaston, Northampton. Their demo was still out the front early Tuesday morning, but I don't know if they will still have it.

Yes, sunroof's are the most pointless thing imaginable.

They cost more, add weight and complexity and who wants the sun shining uncomfortably on the top of their head when driving? It's not like a convertible where that seems OK, it's just plain odd in a fixed roof car.

Then when you get speed up they're noisy as hell. Not to mention crap falling in the car when driving under trees etc.

My last E63 AMG had one (for free) I opened it once in 2 years for about 2 minutes. Plus it's a pain cleaning all the green stuff that grows in the seals around the edges of the glass.

So that's a no from me wink

Not at all. I love my sunroof.

Well... I did until it decided to eat it's self. I must get round to fixing it at some point.

And it gives you better surround sound through tunnels

yes

You can add reduced headroom into the equation as well (which might be an issue if you do a track day and have to put a crash lid on. I actually test drove a 135i with a fitted sunroof and took my lid with me, much to the bemusement of the sales guy, but glad I did as the reduced headroom of the sunroof meant that there was no clearance for the lid)

So, a big no from me as well.

With climate control now, I'd never use one anyway, in fact the last car I had to have one, I don't think I ever did use it in the 4 years I owned it.

No and I think it's a shame that A/C has took over nowadays and hardly anyone has any love for the sunroof, it came in handy when I was little and I could stick my head out of it and enjoy the Blackpool illuminations many moons ago!

If I was to spec a brand new car I would always tick the sunroof box and I like how it brightens the interior up with the light and all it's other benefits.

Over a Carbon Fibre roof say you were ordering a M3/4?

I would yes because the carbon roof on my E92 M3 always made me chuckle because it was championed as being lightweight(saves weight) and this and that...yet the car weighed 1650kg! Form over function springs to mind but I do think a carbon roof looks nice though to be fair.

I am a little old school hence my love for the sunroof.

I'm with you Lee! I'd always thought a sunroof was pretty pointless in a car with air conditioning but my M3 CS (bought second-hand) had one and it really did help to lift the interior (my car had black leather and it would have been a touch sombre with just black headlining). I didn't particularly use the sunroof for ventilation but when tilted it did enable you to get a better listen to the exhaust note as well! In terms of the argument about it adding weight in the wrong place, that's undeniably true but, as you've rightly pointed out, we're not talking about lightweight machines here and frankly another few kilos is neither here nor there on something weighing over 1.5 tonnes; can't deny the potential headroom issue but at 5'11" I'm obviously not tall enough to be affected!

I have ordered my M2 with a sunroof. I think it is a great option to tick. Have it on my C63 and use it all the time, prefer it to having the windows down which can become annoying when driving in a spirited way. The M2 doesn't have the carbon roof (if it did I would probably not spec it because I like the look of the M carbon roofs) and I am ordering a manual. I guess mine will be one of the slowest M2's out there, but it will be a lot of fun. I will try and compensate for the extra weight of the sunroof by going on a diet.

I love having a sunroof, wish I could have specified one on my 1M. Had one on my M235i and it was great, more lovely straight six noise and fresh air and I think lifts the interior, all personal taste though.....
